I know this is a music blog, but I'm totally weeping right now. I just had to share this amazing news!
My favorite childhood show is returning to Cartoon Network with a dramatically different new look. Not crazy about the boxier super heroinettes, but at least we will have familiar voice over work. The original voice cast will rejoin Cartoon Network studios for the relaunch of The Powerpuff Girls series.
Cartoon Network made the announcement while presenting to investors its
line-up of television programming. Writes the beloved cartoon channel, “the
trio of pint-sized super heroines will be called upon to rescue not
just the city of Townsville, but the USA and the world!”
Very interestingly, former Beatle Ringo Starr will appear in the episode
and perform an original song titled “I Wish I Was A Powerpuff Girl.”
He’ll also play “Townsville’s most famous flamboyant mathematician
Fibonacci Sequins.”
Notably, The Powerpuff Girls special features the original voice cast
reprising their iconic roles and will premiere later this year.
Based on the original Cartoon Network series created by Craig
McCracken, the new Powerpuff Girls special is a "re-imagined" and
"redesigned" take on the immensely popular super-heroine sisters made of
sugar, spice, everything nice and a dash of Chemical X. The first
PPG cartoon animated in CG, the special is directed by animation veteran
Dave Smith and features the art direction of the amazing Kevin Dart. The
only image released so far is a radical departure from the visual style
innovated by McCracken and his team during the Powerpuff Girls'
original 1998-2005 run, but the series' original voice cast will reprise
their roles as Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup when the special
broadcasts later this year.
This is a part of CN's launch of a few new superhero show series, including a relaunch of the popular Teen Titans series!
The new PPG show will feature celebrity guest stars throughout the series, starting with a member of The Beatles. Hopefully they get some stars of today on the show. I'd die to see Lady Gaga as one of the new villians on the show!
If only I can find a way to convince CN to bring back Courage, Ed Edd & Eddy and Johnny Bravo. Life will be complete.
