As the company continues to rapidly expand its luxury and lifestyle portfolio and aggressively target this growing customer segment, the Senior Director, Global Public Relations, Luxury and Lifestyle Brands plays a key role in proactively developing and leading public relations for the EDITION, Renaissance, Autograph, AC Hotels and Moxy brands.
The position will be responsible for driving strategy and fully integrating public relations into each brand’s overall consumer marketing and communications goals and objectives. It will fully leverage luxury and lifestyle portfolio PR opportunities, develop top-tier media relations, oversee and manage all outside public relations resources, develop brand specific PR partnerships and help shape the company’s long-term luxury and lifestyle portfolio strategy. The position will also play a key leadership role on Marriott International’s Global Public Relations team.
The primary purpose of this position is to be highly engaged in leading sustained consumer facing global public relations strategies and campaigns for each assigned brand, including high-value earned media, global events and PR activations, brand immersions and results measurement and analysis. The position will liaison closely with the continent PR teams and the Global Communications and Public Affairs disciplines – corporate relations, internal communications, corporate social responsibility and cultural affairs.

*Expected Contributions*

This position is responsible for global public relations for the assigned Marriott International luxury and lifestyle brands: EDITION, Renaissance, Autograph, AC Hotels and Moxy.

As Marriott’s portfolio of luxury and lifestyle brands expands, it is essential to be a recognized leader in the space, promote growth, engage and attract next generation consumers and build brand loyalty. This position is directly responsible for proactively developing and implementing brand specific global public relations plans, campaigns and strategies. In addition, the Sr. Director will:

•Develop top-tier media coverage, including luxury and lifestyle feature publicity in print, broadcast and online. Leverage and drive brand public relations through content marketing and social media channels.

•Lead the PR strategy and manage all related activities and initiatives, including development of PR campaigns, platforms, messaging, positioning and content that promotes the assigned brands and the luxury and lifestyle portfolio.

•Fully integrate brand and portfolio PR with global marketing, development and operations programs and initiatives. Help ensure that the continents, regions and field operations are aware and involved as appropriate with brand PR campaigns, announcements, program launches and activations.

•Be responsible and accountable for the public relations agency hiring, management and budgeting for each assigned brand.

•Provide leadership to marketing and brand teams to generate revenue and add value to owner/franchisee relations and all appropriate stakeholders. Also, provide ongoing PR counsel to brand teams and properties. Work closely with field marketing Directors to leverage scope of local promotions and specific marketing/brand campaigns; establish annual strategic calendar of special events, inclusive of grand openings, experiential marketing events, media tours / open houses, etc. Create and develop PR messaging and execute earned media plans and strategies, major market events, and communications training – including the development, editing and approval of press materials and PR presentations.

•Serve as a key communications liaison with the company’s Global Internal Communications team to ensure pull through of enterprise-wide communications and messaging in key channels (e.g., MGS, Weekly Update, and Headline News), speeches and other venues. This position will also be responsible for leading the communication efforts related to any brand crisis issue.

•Maximize brand Public Relations and publicity opportunities stemming from the company’s strong Corporate Social Responsibility activities and involvements (i.e., Renaissance’s partnership with Creative Coalition). Interface regularly and effectively with Global Communications department team members including Global Corporate Relations, Internal Communications, Corporate Social Responsibility, and, Government Affairs.

•Be responsible for the training in the market for public relations instruction, media training and brand immersions for executives, General Managers, Operations, Sales and Marketing.

•Provide timely and accurate public relations agency network support and follow-through for international properties.

•Represent Marriott International at selected industry trade shows, and use these venues to promote the company’s key messages.

•Manage market pull-through on company initiatives, news and brand messaging.

•Develop operating plans and workable business processes that align with function strategy.

•Manage larger business processes and/or projects, setting priorities and measurable objectives, monitoring and reporting on the process, progress and results.

•Respond to, solve and makes decision on business requests that have broader department impact and/or moderate risk. Present alternative solutions to business issues by leveraging the broader organization.

•Be responsible for own work and contributing to team, department and/or business results. May direct work of non-management staff. Typically influence work of cross-functional or extended teams.

•Play a key role in aligning global public relations with specific brand initiatives, help drive awareness and revenue, and provide public relations expertise and support for existing and pipeline hotels.

*Specific Candidate Profile*

•Four-year college degree, preferably in communications, marketing, or related field;
•Minimum of twelve years’ experience as a proven PR professional, with strong media connections in the luxury and lifestyle space and demonstrated national brand experience;
•Exceptional organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work in teams and lead multiple projects;
•"First-name basis" media relationships that move beyond existing levels within the company;
•Strong special events, promotions and advertising tie-in experience;
•Significant track-record of publicity generation with emphasis on luxury and lifestyle, and business media;
•Multi-disciplinary experience in a corporate environment;
•Publication development, printing and production experience;
•Experience in tactical implementation of media outreach strategies;
•In-depth knowledge of communications practices and theories;
•Knowledge of Marriott’s businesses, strategies, and culture.
•Superior writing and editing skills;
•Strong sense of creative news value and how to maximize for high-level consumer media interest;
•Demonstrated high ability to articulate complex issues to media;
•Highly-defined, strongly-honed interpersonal skills;
•Ability to independently identify and analyze problems/issues, assess risk, create and evaluate alternative solutions and recommend a course of action;
•Short- and long-term project management capabilities;
•Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision;

•Ability to interface and work diplomatically with a wide range of individuals, including the highest levels of corporate management and business units within the organization, and handle all media sensitivities;
