“Two old ladies were chatting in the park. “You know, my husband and I were happy for 40 years,” said one gal.

“What happened?” asked the other woman.

“We met,” sighed the first.”

SO EXCITED!

SOOOOO EXCITED! I just got off the phone with my new BFF and owner of a Quilting School in Poland. She is arranging a Show and Tell with Polish Quilters (a brand new fiber art in Poland) and a Quilting Class (and other creative and patchwork-themed classes activities) for my trip to Poland in September 1-10.

Want to come?

It is going to be an awesome creative quilting experience! NOT just a tour of Poland — an ARTISTIC experience!  Not just sightseeing — an EVENT!

IF YOU HAVEN’T SUBSCRIBED TO THIS BLOG YET:

For well over 2 years, I have been posting up to 20 links per day or every other day, on the Mark Lipinski’s Fan Pageon Facebook. Of course, in Facebook’s never ending quest to make lots of money, Facebook seems to have abandoned their mission of a real social networking site and it has become more about Facebook revenue.

Several months ago, Facebook, without warning, had implemented a new business model. As a result, the vast majority of “LIKErs” who have been faithful readers of this Fan Page have been blocked from receiving my posts, time and time again, from getting all or a few of the postings onto their timeline feed.

The reason is, Facebook would like pages like, Mark Lipinski’s Fan Page, to pay money every day, and on every post, in order to advertise and lure readers like you, onto the Fan Page.

With out “BOOSTING” a post, only about 5% of people who clicked LIKE on the Fan Page are actually seeing anything I post — and it could be random – sometimes you get a post, and sometimes not. Basically, it sucks for all of us. I am finding that we are all better served if I posted my tips, ideas, links, and jokes, etc. to my blog. You can subscribe to my blog (only if you wan to) and get an email each time I post a grouping of ideas, links, etc.

I AM NOT shutting down Mark Lipinski’s Fan Page on Facebook and you are welcome to follow me there, too. What I am doing is putting everything that used to be on the Fan Page individually onto my blog, AND there will be a daily link to the idea blog on the Fan Page, just as there were multiple links to the various blogs that I’ve always linked to in the past. It’s not that different, really. It will save me a lot of time, and guarantee those who want to see the creative posts will actually get to see them. And Facebookers, will STILL have to click on “GET NOTIFICATIONS” in your Facebook Settings if they want to see what I post on Facebook (sometimes that works, but not all of the time).

Actually, my new model gives you at least TWO ways to get all of the ideas, etc. PLUS you can PIN them and they will be TAGGED so you can find them again in the search bar even years later. – through the FACEBOOK FAN PAGE and YOUR CHOICE (not mandatory) to subscribe to the blog and get email postings that way.

I love me a thick book and The Quilt Block Bible*  is a full 3/4″!  It’s not like I haven’t ever seen a book like this before because I have — more than a few times (let’s face it, who could compete with The Quilter’s Album of Patchwork Patterns by Jinny Beyer, anyway?).  The Quilt Block Bible is a verrrrrry traditional application of verrrrrrrry traditional blocks, which might be just what you need to take a break from modern and bright and get back to your quilting, non-reactionary, un-trendy, always popular, in style, and appreciated patchwork roots.

The book comes with a CD, which is great if I hadn’t updated both my desktop and laptop computers where CD-drives are obsolete  and can’t be used. And while there are several quilt layouts (I love the samplers, Confetti General, American Dream, and Summer Batik Sampler, you have to run the damn CD in order to get the patterns for the blocks.  Sooooo, I pulled out my ancient, Intel Celeron Windows Visa Tobshia (that I bought years ago only to run my EQ program until it upgraded for Mac – which I love) to take a look.

Yikes!  I’m sure happy I opened the CD.  The CD simply includes a list of PDF’s, fashioned after the  “Dear Jane” book, which is a bunch of line drawings of the blocks that you have to either trace templates for (and add 1/4″ seam allowance) or redraw into your EQ files to get cutting and sizing instructions (you can decipher the mathematics in your noggin if your a left brain, right brainer).  Eeek!   I keep opening, closing, reopening, and closing, and reopening the CD again, hoping that I’m missing something.  I’m not.

It’s a nice book to leaf through for creative inspiration (who said you have to stick with traditional coloring?), and as a Slow Stitcher, it is EXACTLY right up my alley.  This is a book turns out to be about the process of block-making, in an almost traditional way (only because it’s a book with a CD) from start to finish.  If you haven’t tried drafting and making blocks in this way, you should, if only for the experience as a well rounded quilter.  That said, if you’re looking for a comprehensive pattern and/or block book,  shortcuts, fabric requirements, entertaining banter, and cutting instructions, this one may not be  for you.

BTW, I love the newest quilt on author, Rosemary Youngs, website, called Shipshewana Happy Scrappy:  http://rosemaryyoungs.com/page2.php
