YOKE DU YOUR

Every woman’s dream – Daughter on the cover of Vogue, Son on the cover of Sports Illustrated, boy-toy on the cover of Playgirl, and husband on the cover of Missing Persons!

ARTspiration

Artists or art that turns me on and feeds my muse! Like it or dislike it, what about this art inspires your own art or creativity?  This painterly work is actually a photograph, created by Mark Lovejoy who first mixes printing inks on a press before photographing the results.

DESIGNspiration

Look around you. Design is everywhere! How can you incorporate the beauty that surrounds you into your art or craft?  A group of art students in Germany transformed an electrical tower into an inspired installation, reminiscent of stained glass.

IDEA I LOVE

Presto Change-o!  With a little sewing, you can transform a blah blouse to a HEEE HAAWW YOWZA blouse by adding a little fun fabric to the yoke.  Of course, floral fabric looks a little bit country.  But using one or a patchwork combo of  Kaffe Fassett, Brandon Mably, or Philip Jacob’s lines (www.gloriouscolor.com) or Lynn Krawczyk’s new line (coming out soon with Red Rooster Fabrics) will make it totally hip and Rock-n-Roll.  Here’s how:

IDEA I LOVE

Keep your rings on your fingers and not on your tables!  Who wouldn’t love a set of these Asian inspired teacup coasters?  I love the simplicity and the easy technique to get a professional looking product.  Love these for craft sales, hostess gifts, and keeping stains off of your furniture.  Change up the design and you are Thoroughly Modern Millie, gurl!  Check it:

IDEA I LOVE

You know I’m a cross stitch fanatic.  I drooled when I saw this design — and it’s FREE from the SAMPLERS and SANTAS blog!   Here’s the pattern:

BREATHLESS INSPIRATION

The Gift Of Graft: New York Artist’s Tree To Grow 40 Kinds Of Fruit

It sounds like something out of Dr. Seuss, but artist Sam Van Aken is developing a tree that blooms in pink, fuchsia, purple and red in the spring — and that is capable of bearing 40 different kinds of fruit.

Read more about the artist’s vision here and listen to the story:  http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2014/08/03/337164041/the-gift-of-graft-new-york-artists-tree-to-grow-40-kinds-of-fruit

WORDS TO LIVE BY

PATCHWORK, BABY!

Love Ro Gregg!  Love Fabri-Quilt, too.  I also like this PLAYING WITH ALL YOUR MARBLES quilt. Hate that you have to register to get the free pattern (I know it’s not a big deal, but it’s an extra step I don’t like and normally don’t promote, but I do like this quilt.)  Ro’s  Mablehead Line is FANTASTIC!   Here’s the free pattern for a little info:

MEMBA DIS?

My favorite book from my childhood, The Three Little Kittens.

IDEA I LOVE!

This embroidered wall clock is so easy to make and has the special touch of your handwork!  Here’s everything you need to create your own beautiful piece of ‘timeless’ art.  Here goes:

MUST HAVE!

I think every home should have a FAKE TV burglar  deterrent.  If you’re looking for something quick, easy, and inexpensive, something that requires no setup, no Bluetooth pairing, and no accompanying app, FakeTV’s recreation of the light emitted by a 27″ LCD HDTV could do the trick. According to its makers, anyone who sees the device in action from outside perceives its simulated scene changes, fades, swells, and on-screen motion as real episodes of CSI.   About $40.00

DESSERT!

BANANA MUFFINS

3 ripe bananas (mashed well)

1/4 cup Greek yogurt

1 large egg

1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)

1/2 cup honey

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 tablespoon rum

1 cup sprouted wheat flour

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon baking powder topping (optional):

1/2 cup walnuts

1/4 teaspoon salt

pinch of cinnamon

1 tablespoon cold butter (diced)Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix the wet ingredients well. Separately, whisk the dry ingredients. Fold wet into dry carefully so the batter is just mixed. Pour batter into a muffin tin lined with something like these If You Care unbleached baking cups. Mix topping ingredients together and press on top of muffins. Bake muffins for 30-40 minutes until tops are crisp and lightly browned. Be sure to let them cool for at least 15 minutes before you eat them because they’re actually better that way. (Makes 9 muffins.)

IDEA I LOVE

OK, I realize that this is a tad Victorian, but I still like it.  Make yourself a few yarn tassel knob bobbles to give your doors or drawers an exotic and boho look.  Add color to a drab door and excitement to a Home Depot slab o’wood.   Here’s how:
