SHELBY ALLAHO
It’s All About Shelby. . .
After two less-than-stellar attempts at home economics in 7th and 9th grades, Stephanie’s talented mom probably feared that the creative gene had skipped a generation. Stephanie preferred playing softball and running track.
Fast-forward to the early 1990s and Stephanie was married with two small children, living in Japan and needing Halloween costumes. She finally learned to sew and discovered a newfound love for quilting. She learned the sewing basics, and then took the first quilting class offered at the military base’s recreation center.
A decade later, Stephanie was living in Pickerington, Ohio; her kids were in college and she learned about Etsy and blogs from her daughter. With her daughter’s encouragement and help, she set up Loft Creations and started selling handmade items.
Stephanie’s style is an eclectic mix, and she’s a proud lover of buttons, polka dots, and all things tea. She’s lucky to have the support of her family and friends. Happiness to her is sipping tea and sewing with her dear dog, Abby, by her side. Through her sewing journey, Stephanie has learned that handmade is best!

Art has always been part of Genevieve Crabe’s life in one form or another. Her mother was an artist and always encouraged her artistic endeavors, which have included drawing, crochet, needlepoint, painting, pen & ink, and beading. Always looking for ways to integrate several of these art forms together, she has a strong affinity to using painting and fibers in jewelry making. Following a 30-year career in high-tech, Genevi\u00e8ve is now devoting all her time to artistic pursuits and expanding her arts & crafts business by publishing patterns and kits. She has written two books: Macintosh Graphics Techniques for Multimedia and The Crafters’ Internet Handbook: Research, Connect and Sell Your Crafts Online, which is now a blog, Crafters’ Internet 2.0. On this broadcast of Creative Mojo with Mark Lipinski, Genevieve talks with me about The obstacles she faced moving from a very corporate occupation to a very creative profession, Why she thinks crafts like beading go in and out of fashion, and how she envisions the readers of her book using it to their best creative advantage.

How to Make 100 Bead Embroidery Motifs includes an introductory section on materials and techniques, followed by information about different stitches used in the motifs to secure beads to fabric, including methods for single beads, beads in a row, stacked designs, fringes, and more. It also discusses types of beads, needles, and beading threads.
You’ll be able to easily see the bead placement of each motif thanks to the enlarged photos, while the material lists provide the type, color, and number of beads needed for each project, as well as any other necessary materials or tools. Step-by-step directions and diagrams will walk you through the order in which to embroidery the beads and the types of stitches to use.

GRETCHEN GIBBONS
Gabbing about Gretchen …
Gretchen Gibbons began quilting in 1984, and she’s been passionate about quiltmaking ever since. She is the owner of Celebration of Life Designs, a pattern company. In 2008, her “Pennies from Heaven” quilt was selected for the juried Country Living Classics exhibit sponsored by the International Quilt Festival and Country Living magazine. In 2010, her “My Enchanted Garden” quilt won first place in the embellishments category in the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza and was selected to compete in the 2011 AQS Quilt Show. Her quilts have been featured in Easy Quilts and Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, volume 6.
On today’s Creative Mojo with Mark Lipinski, I get a chance to talk with Gretchen about mixing cotton and wool fibers in one quilt project and the benefits of doing so. The difference between appliqué techniques with wool versus cotton, and the types of wool to use.
