Author of “A Russian Journey in Quilts: The Story of Nicholas and Nina Filatoff” (Kansas City Star Quilts), Tricia Lynn Maloney. Spurred by a family story and a love of quilting, Tricia weaves a tale of sweeping adventure and romance, telling the amazing story of Nicholas and Nina Filatoff. Each of the 15 quilt projects are taken from period designs and commemorate their incredible journey from the traditions of Imperial Russia through the intensity of World War I and upheaval of the Bolshevik Revolution. There are 11 wall hangings, three table runners and a large bed-size sampler quilt. The Russian Sampler combines blocks from the other projects and would make a wonderful block-of-the-month quilt. Learn the story of Nicholas and Nina as you piece through their extraordinary lives.
The woman who inspired me to learn crochet at 54-years-old, Margaret Hubert, will be my guest. Margaret’s new book is called, “Runway Crochet: High-Style Patterns from Top Designers’ Hooks to Yours,” published by Creative Publishing International. We will talk about 22 exquisite, runway-inspired projects—including skirts, dresses, jackets, tops, handbags, and neckwear—with Runway Crochet! These beautiful pieces are designed by Margaret Hubert and six other prominent crochet designers including Doris Chan, Ellen Gormley, Shannon Mullett-Bowlsby, Shelby Allaho, Sharon Valencia, and Tatyana Mirer. Project instructions include a full range of sizes, and the instructional text and stitch diagrams are accompanied by stunning fashion photography.
Artist, Timothy Callaghan, discusses his work and new Quarry publication, “One Painting a Day: A 6-Week Course in Observational Painting: Creating Extraordinary Paintings from Everyday Experiences.” He creatively inspires and helps us explore technique, approach, and materials for each day, while the “weekly lessons” will explore a format or a rhythm for creating content, inspiring you to make the ordinary extraordinary as you paint from everyday life.
