About Debra…
Fiber artist and graphic designer Debra Gabel has enjoyed many aspects of quilting since she was a teen in 1974. After attaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design she worked in the printing industry for ten years as Art Director for several paper shopping bag companies in the United States. In the late eighties Debra started her own graphics company, Mixed Media and still does some work through that company today. Today Debra is the co-owner with husband Gary of Zebra Patterns. Zebra Patterns is a quilt pattern company with over 100 patterns designed for quilters internationally. Along with pattern sales Debra lectures and teaches classes all over the US. She also continues her fine art quilt work through commissions and exhibitions. Her work has been exhibited in the in national and local group exhibitions. Her work can be seen on her website and blog at http://www.zebrapatterns.com. A new studio was completed in 2009 to accommodate the growing business and classroom for private lessons. Mrs. Gabel’s work has been featured in Quilting Arts Magazine, several Quilt Art Calendars for AQS and other notable quilting books and publications. Debra’s first book Blocks Across America will be published by C&T Publishing in fall of 2010. Debra Gabel was one of the co-founders of Metrothreads, a regional Washington DC Fiber Art group of almost 100 members who gather four times a year at her studio for “art connection” time. After a bone marrow transplant in December of 2003 for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Debra has dedicated her life to art quilting and the success of her company Zebra Patterns. Debra mission is to see the world through quilting.
She tries to live by four simple rules from The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz:
1. Be impeccable with your word
2. Always do your best
3. Don’t take anything personally
4. Don’t make assumptions
It is not always easy but she feels it a great guideline.

About Brooks…
Brooks Gabel is the founder of justlikeyou.org, the social network for people going through the coming out process set to launch in April of 2014. As a senior Marketing Major and LGBT Studies Minor at the University of Maryland, Brooks has had the opportunity to swim on a Division 1 athletic team, live abroad, and work with the Smith Business school to accomplish his goals both in and out of the pool. Unlike many of his classmates, Brooks has no intention of applying for a job upon graduation. He aspires to create his own job through justlikeyou.org (JLY), working as an advocate towards a world where the burden of coming out has been eliminated. He enjoys traveling, yoga, wine tasting, Ellen Degeneres, and OITNB. He is inspired to create global change and is committed to creating the resource he never had.

About Amy…
Amy Rice is a mixed-media artist from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has been designing and cutting her own stencils for fifteen years. Here stencil artwork has been shown in fine art galleries in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and China.
For over a decade, Amy has used nontraditional print-making methods, including hand cut stencils and a Japanese toy called a Gocco printer, as a starting point for original mixed-media pieces. She uses spray paint, acrylics, gouache, inks, and print on antique papers (preferring handwritten love letters, envelopes, journal pages, sheet music, and maps). Amy is equally inspired by childhood memories of growing up on a Midwestern farm and the urban community in which she now lives. She is also inspired by bicycles, street art, gardening, and random found objects, collective endeavors that challenge hierarchy, acts of compassion, downright silliness, and things with wings.With 20 clever step-by-step projects and a stunning gallery of inspirational stencil designs from leading artists, Playing With Stencils, her new book, will leave you ready to stencil just about anything. You will design floor tiles stencils inspired by German paper-cutting, you will stencil furniture, shower curtains, a floor cloth, planters, a wall canvas, wallpaper, and even a cake. BARBARA STEINGAS
About Barbara…
Barbara Steingas has been immersed in German language and culture all her life via her German born mother and visiting her relatives in Germany dozens of times. Germany is her second home and very dear to her heart. In high school, the Literary Society Foundation, Inc. of New York City awarded her a Silver Medal for outstanding achievement in the study of German.
She recently wrote an article about the kindness of her neighbors entitled “Help Thy Neighbor Is Still Alive In Solitude Village.” It was published in the Winter/Spring 2009 edition of The Bridge, her town’s quarterly newsletter, as well as a letter to the editor in the Hunterdon Democrat, a local newspaper. The property manager of her neighborhood community enjoyed the latter rendition of the article so much that she had it reprinted in the Spring 2009 edition of Solitude Village’s Community Newsletter.
Barbara has been a Physical Therapist for almost 28 years and recently completed her 25th year at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey. She received her Bachelor of Science degree for Physical Therapy from University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1985 where she received a scholarship for tuition and fees from their Honors Program and graduated summa cum laude. She earned a Master’s Degree for Motor Learning from Columbia Teacher’s College in 1988. Two other accolades include being represented in the 1980-81 edition of Who’s Who Among American High School Students as a result of graduating in the top ten percentile of her class, and election to the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society’s University of Maryland Chapter in 1984.
Barbara’s latest book, The Healing Puzzle: Overcoming A Chronic Illness Through Unconditional Love,” which was recently published in March of 2013, chronicles her journey back to health from a severe case of Crohn’s Disease, an autoimmune form of colitis, largely through the unconditional love of her late husband. This book received 4th place/honorable mention in the self help/inspirational category in the second annual global book contest hosted by Lucky Cinda Publishing.
