LINDA LUM DEBONO
About LINDA…
Linda first gained notoriety as a designer of bright and funky quilts. Along the way, she has shown her diverse talents by authoring books knitting and scrapbooking and by exploring other color ranges as well. The phenomenal use of color and texture in her work is what makes her designs so special.
After graduating with a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto and working in the pharmaceutical industry for a few years, she and her husband moved to New Jersey for his job. Linda then taught herself how to sew and soon after, she designed her first pattern, Believe. She showed her patterns at her first Quilt Market when she was 6 months pregnant and it has been one awesome ride.
Since debuting her patterns to the world, she has designed fabric for Henry Glass in NYC. She has authored several books for Martingale/That Patchwork Place and Leisure Arts. Her work is seen in the wonderful pages of American Patchwork and Quilting, and Quilts and More. She has been invited to be guest host on her buddy, Mark Lipinski’s Creative Mojo Radio Show. Linda has recently started designing digital patterns for Patterns Gone Digital and has offered her first on-line quilting class at CraftEdu.
Linda says, “I was a latecomer to sewing. Sure, I taught myself how to sew hems when I was little. I didn’t have the opportunity to take Home Economics because there were too many girls in the class. Instead, I learned how to use a wood lathe and to weld with a torch. Definitely cool but I fell in love with quilting and sewing when I moved to the United States. The rest, as they say, is history. I’m passionate about textiles and color rocks my world.”

ALENA HENNESSY
About ALENA…
It started long ago, this fascination that Alena had for all the little things that she could find outside. She and her childhood friends would romp around from sunrise to sunset, creating little worlds of creatures that would come to life through their illustrations. After art school came an independent study in Florence, Italy, where Alena began to get down to what she loved in art and in life: simplicity, stillness and a sense of little things relating to one another, all peaceful and quiet. So it has continued to evolve, and now Alena is doing what she loves best, making art and thoughtfully designed products available to people everywhere, everyday. Outside the studio Alena enjoys singing off tune, relaxing near the sea, speaking broken Italiano, and cozying up with her pup Mimi Simone.
Alena’s designs and work can be found through out the US and abroad. She has exhibited her paintings in such places as New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, Berkeley, Raleigh, Asheville, Chapel Hill, Atlanta and Rochester, NH. She has received press from several publications including Dwell, The Washington Post, ReadyMade, Redbook, ME Home Companion, Victoria, and Natural Health magazine.
Alena also offers custom art and designs for both individuals and business entities. Some current and past clients include Target, Urban Outfitters, ABC Studios, Galison/Mudpuppy, Papyrus, Monique Lllulier, Lark & Loon, the City of Chapel Hill, plus personal wedding invitations/announcements, various public and private installations, design consultations, and more.

AMANDA HIXSON
About AMANDA. . .
Amanda Hixson is a former Baylor University journalism student and is currently owner and editor of Bohemia, Waco’s Art & Literary Journal. Through her work, Hixson tells her story of finding inspiration in previous schoolwork and seeing a collaborative success in a collection of friends and volunteers. Bohemia is a quarterly literary journal and maintains an active blog. Their goal is to inspire and support the arts in their city. Bohemia is financially supported by local advertising. Their readership is friends, fans, and family from all over the world. They sell subscriptions to the printed journal that covers shipping and handling and they release the magazine electronically.
Much of Bohemia‘s content is submissions-based. They consider a varied and eclectic mix of short stories, poetry, photography, and art that typically follows themes and genre studies. Their submissions range from the local talents next door to the friendly family of Bohemians around the world. The staff and bloggers at Bohemia in Waco, TX are an amazing, energetic, small group of poets, artists, photographers, and writers.
In a recent interview with the Baylor Lariat, Amanda said, “I like to read poetry, and I especially love to write it. I knew there were other writers out here in Waco like me, and I wanted to give them the opportunity to express themselves openly…. When I was a student in middle school working for the front page of the school paper, I knew that I wanted to write. When I made it to Baylor University, I was writing for The Lariat as a reporter. After some time writing articles, my material started to get in [a poetry magazine]. I realized that my writing could take me out into the professional world with a lot of responsibilities, and I loved it.”

LINDA WYSZYNSKI
About LINDA…
Linda is a native of Tryon, North Carolina currently living in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, with her husband, Dennis. She attended Western Carolina College in Sylvia, North Carolina. During her second year in college she visited Minnesota and fell in love with the beautiful city. Linda remained in Minnesota where she met Dennis. After enjoying many years in Minnesota they decided to move to South Carolina in 2008.
Hearthside Creations, LLC, combines Linda’s two main interests, needlework and painting. She began her designing career painting custom needlepoint canvases for local Needlepoint Shops in Minneapolis, MN. She now creates needlework designs for magazines, multi-author hardcover books and project sheets for manufacturers.
Linda’s needlework designs have appeared in: Bead Unique (Art of Embellishment Columnist), Today’s Creative Home Arts™, Cross Stitch and Needlework, Create and Decorate®, Crafts’ n Things, The Cross Stitcher®, Arts and Crafts, Annie’s Attic®, Crafts Country Christmas, 101 Bridal, Needle Arts (EGA), Better Homes and Garden SIP’s, Craftsworks®, Crafts, Crafting, House of White Birches Publications, RibbonWorks™ Magic & Design Club, Needlecraft Shop Publications, Great American Crafts. In addition to magazines, Linda has designs in twenty hardcover multi-author books and has written three Needlepoint Textbooks for Embroiderers’ Guild of America CC Program. Her designs can be seen on the Daily Window, Today’s Creative Home Arts™ Club and The Caron Collection websites.
In addition to designing, she teaches a Needlepoint Correspondence Class for The Embroiderer’s Guild of America. Early in her career she taught needlepoint, silk ribbon and needlepoint canvas painting in Minneapolis at local shops, St. Paul’s EGA Chapter (St. Paul Needleworkers) and The Needlework Guild of MN.
Linda is active in the art and needlework community including: CHA Designer Section Council (Co-chair 2008 – 2009), Board of Directors Society of Craft Designers, Outreach After School Project, EGA St. Paul Needleworkers Chapter, Board of Directors Needlework Guild of Minnesota, Twin Cities Metropolitan Art Council Board and Polk County NC Community Arts Council Committee. She is currently a member of The Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA), The National Needlework Association (TNNA) and The Craft and Hobby Association (CHA).
Linda recently shared with the Underground Crafter: “My paternal grandmother began teaching me needlework when I was 8 or 9. We didn’t have any iron on patterns and I wanted to learn to stitch. Grandma would take a piece of fabric, lay it over the bottom of the cast iron frying pan, and place a piece of her finished embroidery work face down on the cloth that covered the frying pan. She would then run a wooden spoon over the back of the needlework. The design would magically appear on the fabric that was next to the black cast iron. In my early twenties, I rediscovered needlework, and realized how much I loved to stitch.”

SYLVIA EINSTEIN
About SYLVIA…
Sylvia Einstein made her first quilt in 1975 to celebrate the bicentennial of the United States. She was born & educated in Switzerland and came to the U.S.A in 1965. “I discovered quilting and found myself thoroughly engaged in a very American art form,” Sylvia explains. “I have exhibited on four continents, my work has appeared in numerous magazines, and I have lectured in the USA, Europe and South Africa. Most of my quilts are traditional in technique. I love the grid, the block and the challenge of breaking the seamlines visually. I use a large variety of commercially printed fabric which give richness to the surface. Unexpected connections of lines and patterns happen, I consider my work a dialogue with the material.”
