Obsidian Systems, the specialist in open source software and services, will delve into the saucy topic of website wars at its next Free Beer and networking session, scheduled for October 13 in Johannesburg, including a live link up to Cape Town.
The company’s Free Beer Session is now a renowned and established event within South Africa’s growing open source business community.
It offers a platform for local and international speakers to spark new ideas, share trends, knowledge and experience within the open source space.
The next session will feature presentations by Charles Ash, CEO of Scifi Systems, WordPress expert Doug Hoseck, as well as Grant Bingham from Autumn Leaf.
Founder of the now 15 year old website www.bruinou.com, a website that is still in existence to this day and which stands as the world’s largest repository of articles, stories and insights into the realities of life as a Coloured person in post 1994 South Africa, Charles Ash is now on a mission to move South Africa “beyond identity”.
Charles’ focus is on helping companies extract maximum value from websites, including social platforms, and guiding them to experience the full power of outsourced digital marketing. However, he is also into comedy and promises to add some ‘punch’ the Obsidian Free Beer session!
Doug Hoseck is a web developer and WordPress expert. He started developing websites in Joomla but soon realised that WordPress had eclipsed Joomla’s star and made the switch.
Grant Bingham heads up Autumn Leaf, an IT service provider focused on the development of Java solutions.
Guests will also have the opportunity to engage with Cape-based open source enthusiasts for a second round of connecting OS philosophies, technologies, and communities in South Africa.
As with every session, proceedings begin at 5pm and the speakers are scheduled to present at 7pm followed by networking, dinner and drinks.
“Our Free Beer Sessions are invaluable to engaging our open source market and sharing ideas … businesses are leveraging open source systems and our role is to identify opportunities and share the insight of experts. This time we are focusing on websites and there are a number of topics that will be discussed, it will be a very interesting and insightful event,” says Muggie van Staden, MD at Obsidian Systems.
