Award-winning business professional with more than 15 years of progressive experience in high-profile and high-energy environments. His expertise is demonstrated both as an employee supporting C-Level executives and as an entrepreneurial business owner providing innovative solutions.
Mark has previously managed the marketing and communication strategy for Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner, informing and educating the public about privacy issues related to topics such as marketing, mobile communications, social media, big data, biometrics, and cloud computing.
When he is not educating the public about privacy and technology, he is nourishing his entrepreneurial appetite as the Partner and Co-Founder of VEKYA Inc., a boutique agency that delivers marketing, communications, and business development to mid-size companies. In that role, Mark is responsible for forming and leading high-performance teams of designers, developers, and digital strategy experts to deliver quality marketing solutions.

Amanda Maltby
General Manager, Compliance and Chief Privacy Officer, Canada Post
Amanda is responsible for organizational compliance in the areas of Human Rights, Privacy, Records Management, Equity and Diversity, Official Languages, Anti-Money Laundering and Access to Information. In her role, Amanda establishes the direction, priorities and plans for the compliance programs ensuring consistency with the corporation’s business goals, vision and strategic direction.
As Chief Privacy Officer, Amanda manages Canada Post’s activities related to employee and customer privacy, which includes the implementation of a coordinated approach to personal information protection and privacy compliance that will identify and mitigate risk, improve business performance and enhance trust in the Canada Post brand.
Prior to joining Canada Post, Ms. Maltby spent over twenty years in the field of public affairs and communications in the public and private sectors. She has held several senior executive posts including Senior Vice-President, Ipsos-Reid Public Affairs and Senior Vice President, Public Affairs and Communications at the Canadian Marketing Association, where she successfully lead the Association’s efforts in negotiating the federal private sector privacy law, PIPEDA. She also held the position of Director, Communications Strategy and Policy at the federal Department of Finance and Deputy Director, Corporate Communications at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Ottawa.
Ms. Maltby is frequent commentator on privacy and information management issues and a lecturer with the Canadian Marketing Association. She is currently a member of the Advisory Committee for the Conference Board of Canada’s Council of Chief Privacy Officers and sits on the Board of Directors of the Executive Women’s Golf Association. Ms. Maltby is a graduate of Carleton University in Ottawa.
Peter R. Murphy
Partner, Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP
Peter Murphy is a partner in the Business Law Group, based in Gowlings’ Toronto office. His practice has a special focus on technology, privacy and commercial law. Peter is co-lead of Gowlings’ CASL (Canada’s Anti-Spam Law) group.
Peter’s privacy law expertise includes defending clients from privacy breach complaints and investigations by Canada’s Privacy Commissioner, conducting privacy assessments, responding to freedom of information requests, drafting privacy-compliant contracts for complex business and financial transactions, preparing corporate privacy policies, and advising clients on Canada’s Anti-Spam Law.
Vance Lockton
Senior Analyst – Stakeholder Relations at the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
His primary role involves developing and maintaining strong relationships with private-sector stakeholders, with three primary end goals:
encouraging proactive compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)
advancing industry awareness of OPC findings, guidance and other materials, and
increasing the OPC’s knowledge of current industry practices, as well as the challenges faced by organizations and technology developers, as they relate to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information.
Vance has been involved in the privacy field for over a decade, with the last 6 years split between the OPC and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. He holds B.Math. (Computer Science, University of Waterloo), M.Sc. (Computer Science, University of British Columbia), and M.P.P. (Public Policy, Simon Fraser University) degrees, the latter two focused on online identity.
Matthew Vernhout
Chief Privacy Officer, Inbox Marketer
Matt is a digital messaging industry veteran and Certified International Privacy Professional with more than 10 years of experience in email marketing. Through his years of practical experience in both privacy and network operations, he is an astute problem solver with both strategic and technical experience. At Inbox Marketer, Matt is responsible for the privacy and deliverability team working to ensure our clients achieve industry leading deliverability. He also ensures that clients are compliant with all regulations including CAN-SPAM, PIPEDA and Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
Matt has extensive ISP Relations and privacy knowledge having worked with some of the world’s largest ESPs including: DoubleClick Email Solutions, Epsilon Interactive, and TC Media. Engaged and with his finger on the pulse of the latest developments, Matt shares his thoughts on industry trends via an email newsletter and his social marketing blog EmailKarma.net which was recognized in 2010 as one of Canada’s top 40 marketing blogs, based on the blog rankings provided by Advertising Age.
Matt is also active in various associations with roles such as director at large of CAUCE and Senior Moderator of the Email Marketer’s Club. He has been a speaker at conferences and seminars with the Email Experience Council (EEC), Canadian Direct Marketing Association, and is also the Co-author of the book A Complete Guide to e-Marketing under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation. Matt graduated from St Clair College in 2002 with a diploma in IT management.
