Introducing our jolly good new Fellows, the best advice Sir Ranulph Fiennes ever received, now’s the time to nominate your Brand of the Year, and reflections on a fitting tribute to Kenny Harris.

The party of all parties

On 5 September we hosted a party. Many of our guests called it the party of all parties. At the top of The Gherkin, champagne flowed and Fellowships were awarded to 10 brilliant marketers. They are Saj Arshad, Group Marketing Director, Vodafone Group, Richard Brasher, former Tesco UK Chief Executive, Martin Deboo, Consumer Goods Analyst, Investec UK, Daryl Fielding, former VP Marketing of Kraft Foods, Steve Langan, Managing Director, Hiscox UK & Ireland, Vince-Wayne Mitchell, Professor of Consumer Marketing, Cass Business School, Caroline Taylor, VP Marketing, Communications & Citizenship UK & Ireland, IBM, Suzi Williams, Group Marketing & Brand Director, BT, Laurie Young, Author and Advisor, with special recognition for our Honorary Fellow Sir Keith Mills. In the Clubhouse, watch a video of Sir Keith Mills accepting his Fellowship, ahead of his appearance at the Royal College of Physicians on 23 October. You can read interviews with some of our new Fellows including Suzi Williams and Steve Langan. We asked Suzi for the secret to bold marketing leadership. ‘Concentrate your firepower. Because a few massive things done well are so much more effective than hundreds of smaller things done averagely.’ Thankyou to our sponsor Miroma.

Listen

On 28 November at the Royal Opera House, we will be lucky enough to hear from Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the world’s greatest living explorer. He shared with Elen Lewis the best advice he’s ever been given: Listen more than you speak. Come and listen to him at the Annual Conference.

Now’s the time to nominate

We’ve clocked the work of a few brands in 2012: easyJet, London2012 and Paddy Power, for starters. But now’s the time to tell us who has impressed you in 2012. Nominate a brand in fewer than 200 words and there will be a live vote at our Annual Dinner on 28 November.

A seriously good event

In Edinburgh on 20 August, our game show 'You Cannot Be Serious!' raised the roof and £1,145 for Diabetes UK, the charity of our friend and member Kenny Harris. In a fitting tribute to Kenny, the aim of the game, expertly hosted by stand-up comedian, Fred MacAulay, was to hoodwink the other team into believing what is false is true, and what is true is false. The winning team was made up of Gordon Southern, Roisin Donnelly and Mark Earls. A big thank you to everyone who donated. You can make an additional donation to Diabetes UK.
