Chris Pine for Armani Code

Some exciting news coming from Armani fragrances is that Star Trek actor Chris Pine has signed on to be the face of Armani Code, one of the world’s best selling men’s fragrances.

According to Giorgio Armani, ‘Chris perfectly embodies the brand’s spirit with his strong charisma and natural elegance. Besides revealing great talent, high versatility and the right amount of irony on set, his magnetic charm makes him the ideal match for this fragrance.’

We can’t wait to see what the campaign looks like!

In other model news, Andrej Pejić also landed a new ad campaign for the Spring/Summer 2014 campaign for German luxury accessories label MCM. The new collection will include kaleidoscopic prints and florals, with the aim to achieve a genderless aesthetic, thus making the androgynous Pejić a perfect fit.

MCM owner, Sung-Joo Kim said in a recent interview, ‘The concept of genderless is key not only for this season’s campaign but also in terms of where we want to take the brand in the future as we move away from traditional targets and evolve into a brand representing a true new school of luxury, suggesting a new alternative in future lifestyles.’

Challenge to Spanish abortion law fails

Earlier this week, Spanish MPs voted in a secret ballot against abandoning the tough proposed changes to the abortion law. In late December 2013, the governing People’s party tabled legislation seeking drastic changes to the abortion law – the toughest in Europe. Naturally, the proposed changes were widely attacked by women’s groups, seen as a massive step backwards. The changes will basically make abortion illegal, except in cases of rape.

Fashion eds stuck in lift (once again) at New York Fashion Week

Last year, a couple of fashion editors and front rowers were stuck in a lift during New York Fashion Week (NYFW). This year, the same thing happened! André Leon Talley, former editor-at-large for Vogue US magazine and various prominent magazine editors got stuck for an hour just as they were departing Oscar de la Renta’s fashion show for his Autumn/Winter 2014 collection.

Sophie de Rosée, style editor for the Telegraph magazine, was stuck in the same elevator and ended up writing a blog post on the ordeal.

Another exciting incident from NYFW yesterday was that designer Carrie Hammer featured Danielle Sheypuk, Miss Wheelchair New York 2012, in her show. Sheypuk made it down the runway in her wheelchair, clad in the designer’s lovely pieces.

‘People with disabilities are an untapped consumer market in terms of fashion. We read the magazines, shop in stores, but nothing is ever pitched to us,’ said Sheypuk.

State of the Nation

All eyes are on Jacob Zuma today, as he will deliver his State of the Nation address in parliament this evening.

Analysts are expecting him to place emphasis on the ANC government’s achievements over the last 20 years since South Africa’s first-ever democratic elections in 1994. Congress of the People (COPE) leader Mosiuoa Lekota said: ‘The president should confess in parliament that he has failed the nation and should announce his resignation from active politics with immediate effect,’ while the Federation of Unions of SA (FEDUSA) commented that he should focus on the ‘critical challenges’ facing the country.
