Celebrities are known for over-the-top celebrations of everything from weddings to birthdays. We took a look at some of the most expensive, most envious celebrity birthday celebrations. And then despaired about what to do for our own birthdays – you just can’t top a three-day party at a seven star hotel, now can you?
Paris Hilton
For her 21st birthday the heiress, singer and model threw herself several birthday parties in several cities including New York, Las Vegas, Tokyo and London. This blonde bombshell must really love her friends as she spent as much as $75 000 dollars on each of the guests who attended her festivities. She also treated them to a 21-tiered birthday cake. We’ll admit it, we’re jealous!
Elton John
He’s known for his flamboyancy, but for his 60th birthday Elton John outdid himself. The infamous singer spent a reported $1.5 million on a black-tie birthday event – ‘party’ is just too small a word for celebrations of such a magnitude! No less than 500 guests were invited to Elton’s birthday event at the largest gothic church in the world, the Cathedral of St John the Divine in New York. As the king of outfits, Elton did not disappoint his guests when he arrived to his birthday bash in a Louis XIV costume. Never mind ‘birthday boy’, Elton is the Birthday King – literally, in that outfit.
Sean Combs
P. Diddy, Puff Daddy or whatever he goes by these days spared no expense for his 40th birthday party. The hip-hip icon spent $3 million on a big birthday bash at the Plaza Hotel’s Grand Ballroom in New York. With the help of his millions, the singer turned the venue into a fantasy dreamland with a black and white theme. Aside from a jaw-dropping venue, Combs treated his guests to fashion shows and performance art.
Simon Cowell
For his 50th birthday the television producer and Idols judge decided to celebrate at home… which happens to be a 2500 acre mansion in Hertfordshire. He treated his 400 guests to an assortment of dishes including prawn and lobster martinis, chicken soup, shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, apple pie and bread and butter puddings – yum! To keep everyone entertained, the star hired Rat Pack impersonators who performed for the duration of the party.
Naomi Campbell
For her 36th birthday, Naomi clearly felt like celebrating. She and her boyfriend at the time, Russian Tycoon Vladimir Doronin, planned a three-day birthday extravaganza at the seven-star Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai – which she rented exclusively, of course. Each day of the celebration boasted a different theme; the first day featured an All White theme, the second a Hip Hop theme and the third a Brazilian samba theme. We wouldn’t have minded an invitation to that party – even with the possibility of the birthday girl lobbing a cellphone at us!
