First Impressions is a Marginalia Review of Books podcast featuring authors of some of the most important new books in religion, history, culture, and theology. Through the hard work our co-hosts Arthur Remillard, David M. Krueger, Kristian Petersen, and Joseph Ryan Kelley, the First Impressions team has released thirty-eight interviews in the past year. That brings the total number of books featured to ninety-seven since Art Remillard began the show in 2013.
Speaking of Art Remillard, we are sad to report that Art will no longer be able to conduct interviews at MRB Radio due to his professional commitments at St. Francis University. We think Art started a pretty terrific thing and has given some great authors an opportunity to share their research with the public. Listen to what some of our authors have said about Art and the show he started:
“For years now I have looked forward to Art Remillard’s interviews. His ability to tease out not just a book’s core arguments, but also why they matter has been a great service to listeners across the country. It was a privilege and honor to have the chance to speak with Art about my own book. He will be missed!”
— Heath Carter, author of Union Made: Working People and the Rise of Social Christianity in Chicago.
“Seeing a new First Impressions episode from Art always made my day: Art’s enthusiasm for new books in American religion and his great questions for authors helped me pass the miles on many of my runs. I was thrilled when he asked me for an interview about my book, and even more excited to hear the finished result: a well-produced podcast in which he set me up with great questions and showcased my work in the best light. He will be missed on MRB!
–Seth Dowland, author of Family Values and the Rise of the Christian Right.
“Art’s generous curiosity is a benefit to our field! I’m grateful to have been able to talk to him about my work and to listen to his thoughtful interviews of other authors.
–Annie Blazer author of Playing for God: Evangelical Women and the Unintended Consequences of Sports Ministry.
The good news is that Dave, Joseph, and Kristian will continue to produce high-quality, stimulating podcast interviews in the coming year. Be sure to listen to MRB Radio’s other shows Impolite Conversation with Tim Hill and Dan Clanton, Contemporary Islam Considered with Sarah Eltantawi, and Directions in the Study of Religion with Kristian Petersen.
