Loyola Students Have Success At Regional Science Fair

MANKATO, MINN. — Loyola Catholic School students had a very successful showing at the Regional Science Fair held at Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday.

All three Loyola high school participants, Elaine Adams, Ella Haefner and Alyssa Compton, will advance to the State Science and Engineering Fair in Minneapolis, March 25-27. The three also earned trips to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, CA in May. Ella and Elaine (group project) also won a trip to ISWEEEP (International Sustainable World Engineering Energy Environment Project) in Houston, Texas in May. ISWEEEP draws hundreds of the brightest STEM-focused students in the world together each year to compete in a fun and collaborative environment.

Alyssa Compton: American Fisheries Society Aquatic Sciences Achievement Award, Tri-County Coalition of Lake Associations Environmental Award, Mankato Pharmaceutical Award, Minnesota Section of the American Chemical Society Certificate of Excellence, Mu Alpha Theta Award, MSU Chemistry Award, ASU Walton Sustainability Solutions Award

Of the 19 Loyola intermediate students that competed at MSU, 15 students will advance to the State Science Fair in Minneapolis on March 25-27:

Sadie Blace, Lauren Cahalan, Caroline Cardenas, Emily Coudron, Paige Frutiger, Addison Fraze, Duram Kelly, Olivia Kreykes, Elaine Ludvik, Samantha Naples, Isabella Roe, Anna White, Annelise Winch, Kaitlyn Wolff, and Sarah Yenish

Additional awards received by intermediate students:

Emily Coudron: CSET Achievement Award for Microbiology; The United States Air Force Achievement Award; Broadcom Masters Award and nomination for a trip to Washington D.C.

Duram Kelly: Thin Film Scholar Award; Broadcom Masters Award and nomination for a trip to Washington D.C.

Addison Fraze: CSET Achievement Award

Sarah Yenish: Best project in Animal Science category, Best project in Biology category, Broadcom Masters Award and nomination for a trip to Washington D.C.

Anna White: Best project in Behavioral Science Award

Lauren Cahalan: CT Wang Award for Best Project display

Caroline Cardenas: CT Wang Award for Best Project display
