SAINT PETER, MINN. — Connect with the local and statewide experts to learn about surface water quality and quantity issues and challenges.

Join us for presentations and discussion about geology, water quality trends, river channel and flow changes of the Minnesota River in the vicinity of St Peter.  The free event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 22 with doors opening at 3:30 pm and the presentation beginning at 4:00 pm

Health and History of the Minnesota River

Take part in the scientific discussion and meet local watershed leaders.

Featured speakers will include:

Carrie Jennings, Glacial Geologist and Research and Planning Director with the Freshwater Society will describe the late-glacial origin of the Minnesota River valley. Its history explains many of the unique geologic features, but also frames the current issues we are addressing.

Patrick Baskfield, coordinator of the Watershed Pollutant Load Monitoring Network and twenty year hydrologist with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will present an overview of Minnesota’s current stream water quality conditions along with the impacts our local watersheds have on the Minnesota River.  Maps, pictures and videos will be used to help explain the major sources of river pollutants and the conditions under which they are delivered to our rivers.

Eileen Campbell, Continuous Water Data Coordinator at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will define runoff, gridded precipitation data and runoff ratio and will explore reasons for variation of runoff ratio, focusing on the Minnesota River.

Christian Lenhart, Research Professor with the Dept. of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering, University of Minnesota will present recent studies of channel change, hydrology and vegetation dynamics in the lower Minnesota River basin.

No Registration required.
