If you think that Postal ID is of lesser importance than the other government IDs (such as SSS, Philhealth, TIN ID, among others), you might want to think again.

The Philippine Postal Corporation (Philpost) announced that there will be an issuance of new postal ID card. And this ID will now be widely accepted to any office or agency, just as how the other government IDs are accepted.  What’s more is that the new postal ID is easy to apply and will be delivered to your doorstep. No hassle whatsoever. Good Idea, right?

Aside from that, the new postal ID is having a new look that is hardbound, just as how an ATM card and UMID card looks like. Also, it will be having electronic security features. This ID will be valid for 3 years.

Who can apply for the new Postal ID Card?

All Filipinos of any age, living here in the Philippines or abroad, are eligible to apply.

Foreigners residing in the Philippines for at least 6 months may also apply

Requirements

Of course there are a few documents you need to bring so you get to process your application. You might as well have both the original and photocopy of the following documents:

Birth Certificate – Issued by NSO or Local Civil Registrar

Proof of Address – Barangay Clearance or Utility Bill (electricity bill, water bill, credit card statement and the like)

** Notes:

Married females must bring their Marriage Certificate to validate change of name from birth document

Minors or those below 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian

Procedures

Have the necessary documents prepared and fill up your new postal ID application form.

Have your documents screened, then go the nearest ID “capture” station to be photographed and fingerprinted. There are 260 postal ID capture stations nationwide and you can find them here: https://www.phlpost.gov.ph/files/list_of_postal_id_capturing_sites.pdf

As said earlier, the new postal ID will be delivered at your doorstep. Philpost will have it delivered at the address you provided in the application form in:

5 working days – for Metro Manila address

7 working days – for other major cities and municipalities

15 working days – for island provinces and remote barangays

Your new Postal ID will be having the following security features on it:

On-site digital capture of fingerprints, photo, signature and personal details

Centralized ID printing and database to guarantee that the cards are authentic

An encrypted QR (‘quick response’) code printed on the card can verify the identity of ID holder using a downloadable smart-phone application

Application Fees

The process of the new Postal ID requires an application fee. Below is the fixed fee for anywhere in the country.

Fee Particular

Postal Id Card + Delivery Fee (Php  370.00)

12% VAT (Php 44.44)

Total Payment (Php 414.44)

You may be saying that this new Postal ID is cool and you are okay with it “But what will happen to my old but still valid Postal ID?”

Well, the old ID will remain valid up to its date of expiration. However, Post offices will stop issuing paperbased IDs when the new Postal ID becomes available in their area. Old but valid postal IDs may also be converted to the new Postal ID at a price discount:

Old Id Card – Discount for New ID

Issued in Oct 2014 or Later – 25%

Issued in Nov 2013 to Sept 2014 – 20%

Issued in Nov 2012 to Oct 2013 – 10%
