Oldham Council has held a special event to say thank you to it’s dedicated foster carers.

The event was recently held at the White Hart Inn, Lydgate to recognise the valuable contribution foster carers play in the lives of looked after children.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Public Health, said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone one of our carers for all their hard work and dedication.

“They really do make a difference to the lives of Oldham children.”

The night was attended by the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor John Hudson who presented carers with long service awards.

Among those whose work was recognised were foster carers Pippa Bamford and Helen Haigh who received a five-year long service award.

They said: “We were surprised and delighted to receive our long service award.

“Though our five years of fostering has not been without its challenges, for the most part we find it very fulfilling and enjoy it tremendously.

“From the very beginning we have been well supported by our supervising social worker. We would highly recommend fostering with Oldham Council to anyone thinking about becoming a carer.

“Fostering on both a long and short term basis is very rewarding and makes such a difference to the children and young people. It’s lovely to be recognised for the work that we do – bring on the next five years!”

Oldham Council’s Fostering Service would like to hear from anyone wishing to become a foster carer.
