Pros and cons.

Rain or shine, the game still goes on…unless you live in Vigo, Spain.

With rain trouncing over most of Spain this weekend, conditions at Celta Vigo’s stadium has resulted in Real Madrid’s Sunday night match to be postponed.

After returning to form with a win last week against Real Sociedad, Real Madrid was planning on traveling to the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos to enact revenge on Celta Vigo.

Madrid was looking to reestablish their dominance against the Celtics after suffering a recent loss and draw against the La Liga side in the quarterfinals of the Copa Del Rey – no thanks to Danilo’s own goal.

In light of being knocked out of the tournament, Real Madrid was able to enjoy a restful week off. On the other hand, Vigo’s victory meant that the club would have to play a midweek tournament match against Alvaes.

The Sky Blue’s Thursday night Copa Del Rey match resulted in a boring 0-0 draw. Throughout the 90 minutes, Vigo had complete and utter control the game; however, they were unable to put away any of their 13 shots. In result, the side’s weekday match caused nothing but frustration and fatigue.

The quick turnaround after their Thursday night effort suggested that the Vigo would have to be play a depleted squad against Madrid.

However, this will not be the case anymore.

With Sunday night’s contest being pushed further away, it will cause a frenzy of pros and cons for Madrid.

Cons:

If the match would have been played on Sunday, Madrid would have had to play a depleted and tired Celta Vigo side; thus, making the weekend match effortlessly easy for Zidane’s side. This will now not be the case. The opposite will happen.

Sunday’s match would have kicked off a harsh February for the Whites. Zinedine Zidane and company would have to deal with seven matches in four weeks due to Champions League matches against Napoli – but not anymore.

Real Madrid will enjoy another couple days off but will deal with an even more compacted schedule. At the moment, this issue seems small, but when legs get heavy towards the end of the season, rest will be crucial and Madrid will have less of it.

Pros:

The positives for Sunday’s match being postponed is that Madrid will see the return of many regular starters after individual injuries.

Fan favorites Pepe and James Rodriguez are set to return to action this week after nursing their respective injuries. The duo were planning on making the trip to Vigo; however, it seemed unlikely they would have started.

Further injury news suggests that Luka Modric and Dani Carvajal are closing in on returning to the pitch. Reports are stating that the two will be back on the training ground in a week’s time.

But what are your thoughts on the postponement? Did Madrid get lucky or will this cause misfortune?
