Ads by NewPlayer is a browser extension for Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, and a Browser Helper Object for Internet Explorer. These malicious browser extensions use popups to promote ads thru a specific website. The ads from Ads by NewPlayer are simply used to send web traffic to partners in order to make revenue from these ads using affiliates thru the superfish.com domain and other suspicious advertisement networks.

The malicious browser extensions Ads by NewPlayer and it’s ads are made for one thing, to investigate your browsing behavior and to make revenue by advertisements. The ads will display underlined keywords that will show pop-up, inline, outline or transitional advertisements and other unwanted forms of ads in your browsers. The pop-ups may vary from legit advertisements with offers, deals or coupons to pop-ups that offer a Java or Flash Player update in order to install more adware into your computer.

Both are well known social engineering techniques to trick the computer user into installing malicious or ad-support software. Often this is where the problem persists, there is a thin line between legit, ad-support or Potentially Unwanted software.

It is advised to always read the End User License Agreements (EULA) or Terms and Agreements before installing software on your computer. Do never click too fast thru the installation process [Next] button of software as you will agree to software you might not want to install. If the installer offers a Advanced or Custom option button, click it to find out if there is any other malicious software offered and installed during the installation process.
