The Malay Heritage Museum

The Malay Heritage Museum features the uniqueness of Malay heritage with its fantastic collection of textiles, apparel, weapons and household equipment. Some interesting things to discover: the Malays had used the footnoting system in their manuscripts more than 300 years ago; a mind-mapping concept similar to Tony Buzan’s was already in use by the Malays for more than 200 years; the cindai cloth infused with healing herbs had probably saved Hang Jebat during his scuffle with Hang Tuah; and the Malay invention of the gobek api, a device that combines concepts of physics, chemistry, and biology, pressure, compression and friction, which was in use about 100 years before the creation of matches in the West.

The Malay Heritage Museum, within the compounds of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), also has four traditional Malay houses aged about 100 years old which can be explored to learn about Malay craftsmanship and architecture.

Overall, the museum promises visitors many more interesting finds about the history and heritage of the Malays, and is a great way to spend an afternoon back in time! Tours in English by the curator can be arranged upon request. Tickets are RM2/person and the museum opens daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and is closed on Sundays.

The Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge - Image from Lensamassa.wordpress

Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge

The Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge 2015 is an annual offshore deep sea fishing competition under the auspices of the Pahang State Government. It is jointly organized by Tioman Development Authority Culture Malaysia, in collaboration with the Malaysian Angling Association.

The competition is only for catches of sailfish and marlin, and contestants are guided by the rules of conduct based on international standards set by the Billfish Foundation and The International Game Fish Association. “Catch and Release” is compulsory whereby after capture, the fish is unhooked, photographed and returned to the sea before it experiences exhaustion or injury.

The event is held at Lanjut, Kuala Rompin, about 125 kilometres south of Kuantan in the state of Pahang. The area is known as the “Billfish Capital of Asia’’ where sailfish and marlin spend much of their time cruising the seas off Kuala Rompin during their active migration season in the months of March through September each year.

Saturday Night Fever the Musical

This brand new production of Saturday Night Fever, one of the most loved dance stories of all time, is packed with legendary hits from the Bee Gees including the classics Stayin’ Alive, Night Fever, Jive Talking, You Should Be Dancing and How Deep is Your Love? Saturday Night Fever was more than an entertaining, cult favourite film; it became the very definition of how music, dance and pop culture can come together and redefine an era even in the passing of time.

Years later, it premiered at London’s West End in 1998 and New York’s Broadway in 1999 but this time around, the 2015 production will be imbued with a slight contemporary edge while retaining the film’s grittiness and realistic portrayal of the disco era and the entertainment value of its music and dance moves. Are you ready to go back in time with this musical?
