The deceased, Lameck

The Malawi Defence Force soldiers and Malawi Police officers have been involved in a cat-and-mouse chase in the old Capital Zomba.

Malawi24 reporter  on the scene saw some MDF soldiers roughing up Police Officers who were providing security at the Spar Shop which has Standard Bank ATM machine which is a hundred meters from the city’s bus deport.

The police officers were given refuge in the Spar Shop which was locked the moment they went in.

The overpowered officers had to be be whisked away a few minutes later by other Police Officers who came to their rescue in a Toyota Land Cruiser.

This development follows the fatal shooting of a Malawi Army soldier, Price Lameck who was deployed at Cobbe Barracks in Zomba.

Lameck was shot dead in the wee hours of Sunday by police officers who were patrolling the streets of Zomba City.

The deceased was coming from a beer drinking joint with his in-law and met police who were on patrol just close to Zomba People’s Metrol shop

He then crawled and collapsed at a nearby tree close to the Tachirani Pharmacy. He was pronounced dead at the Zomba Central Hospital.

Reports reaching Malawi indicate that the tension was rising in Mzuzu where Army officers were scene all over the city.
