Malawi`s Afro-Soul Gospel and country musician Francis Phiri, popularly known as  Lawi has been nominated for the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA)for his Whistle Song in the  Best Male Artist category in Southern Africa.

The artist  who has of late had his hit, “Amaona Kuchedwa” enjoy massive airplay in local radios and having extensive downloads on Malawi`s  online music websites as well promising views on You Tube  , has been  described to be musician with consciousness through his songs Girl Child and Mtengo.

In an Online interview with Malawi24, Lawi attributed the nomination to hard work and said it shows the growth that Malawian music has had as well as personal growth to his talent.

“This just shows that the world is listening and they appreciate what we do” said Lawi.

He further continued to call on Malawians to join him in prayers so that he grabs the award.

Born and raised in Blantyre Malawi, Lawi got involved with music at a very young age, playing guitar in church and pianos for the praise team at his local Nkolokosa church with Bishop Andrew Dube.

Lawi has worked David Kalilani, Q Malewezi, Faith Mussa, Peter Mawanga, & K.B.G., just to mention a few.

Lawi’s self titled album ‘Lawi’  was released on December 15th 2013.

In the category, Lawi is battling it out with, Eddy Tusa from Angola with his track Margaride, Heavy K, feat Proffesor from South Africa on the track Beautiful War, Jah Prayzah from Zimbabwe with the track Tsviriyo, Kueno Aionda from Angola with the Isabel track and The Dogg feat Chetsa from Namibia with a piece called Nuka.

The AFRIMA awards ceremony will take place on November 9 in Lagos, Nigeria.
