Eden Prairie, Minnesota (PRWEB) March 04, 2013

Whether a home is a new construction project, or a major home renovation, a recent survey helps home builders give considerable weight to what most home buyers want when they are looking for a home. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) released their annual “What Home Builders Really Want” survey results that says home buyers want energy efficiency.

“Being based on a nationwide 2012 survey of new and potential home buyers, the study provides key insight into home buyers’ preferences. They have every right to be choosy. Existing home owners preparing to sell their home and architects building designs for new homes gain a big head's up as to what home buyers really want,” says Butch Sprenger, owner of Destiny Homes.

What home buyers seem to want most is high-end amenities, regardless if that translates into owning a smaller home to obtain them. According to the survey, 62 percent of the respondents favored high-quality products and home amenities over more floor space. Owning a McMansion certainly isn't everything, as the average home buyer prefers spending on a green, energy efficient home and home technology over spacious floor plans.

Destiny Homes finds home renovators and buyers have the following “Wish Lists” as substantiated in the “What Buyers Really Want” survey:

1) Home purchasers want kitchen with quality materials and features, such as a double sink and granite or similar composite countertops, and energy efficient appliances.

2) Home buyers strongly prefer a full master bathroom, complete with both bathtub and shower, along with adequate storage space for personal belongings. Getting ready for a busy day should be both pleasurable and items for cleansing routines should be well-organized and readily accessible.

3) Wireless home security systems to whole-house electronic features offering state of the art luxury home entertainment rooms for family ease and enjoyment.

4) Home buyers prefer French doors opening between rooms or to exterior living spaces over standard door openings.

5) Garage storage systems for a well organized home. Home buyers want a place to conveniently store tools, sport equipments, and lawn accessories without clutter or going on a hunt.

According to the “What Home Buyers Really Want” report, home buyers are generally prepared to pay a median of $203,900. This median is lower than the median value of new homes purchased ($230,000), however, it is higher than the median value of all homes purchased ($170,000).

Additionally, Minnesota is on Case Schiller's top most liveable states index. Accordingly, home buyers can find even more reasons to buy a Minnesota home.
