Hola people!!!

You know what, I should say this more often, but I love you guys, all of you. A day without IMBB, for me, is a day devoid of cheeriness. I never ever could have realized my love for writing had it not been for you all out there. The IMBB Team, I love you all for giving me a chance to showcase my talent, and correcting me every now and then. All my wonderful fellow writers and readers, I love you for showering my works with genuine and not fake compliments.

So, let us come to today’s topic. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and the air is already all mushy around us. Love truly takes us to a dreamland, and what is a better land of dreams than our own Bollywood. Our Indian Film Industry has given us more gems for romance, than anything else. Be it the soulful music, or the dreamy and intense on-screen romances that had us all craving of our own perfect love story.

So today, we talk of those super gorgeous couples, who set the reel life and screen on fire, with their beautiful love stories, and made us wish, “Darn! Why aren’t they married in real life!! They look so cute together!”

1. Guru Dutt – Waheeda Rehman

Already crooning “Chaudhavi ka Chaand”? I know! Me too! Somehow, whenever I think of Guru Dutt and the timeless hits of the era that he has delivered, a shy and ever-so-gorgeous Waheeda Rehman automatically comes to my mind. Along comes an alternate world of dreams, where these two could have been together for an eternity.

2. Raj Kapoor – Nargis

This was indeed an alleged love affair. Also, allegedly, Nargis recently had her heart broken by ‘The Showman’ when Sunil Dutt entered her life like a knight in shining armour. No matter how much we love the real life couple Sunil and Nargis, sometimes, far away in the dreamland, we can’t help but wonder “Pyar Hua Ikraar Hua Hai, Pyaar Se Phir Kyon Darta Hai Dil.” Sigh! This was indeed one of the most romantic songs, and the chemistry of Raj and Nargis only fuelled the fire of our imagination.

3. Farooq Sheikh – Deepti Nawal

“Chashme Baddoor”, “Kisise Na Kehna”, and who can forget “Saath Saath”. All I know is, when the handsome Farooq Sheikh sang to the innocent and blushing Deepti Nawal “Tumko Dekha To Ye Khayal Aya, Zindagi Dhoop Tum Ghana Saaya”, we all sighed and wished this couple would tie the knot. The simple middle-class couples that they portrayed together, are still too real for us to consider as a part of reel life.

4. Amol Palekar – Vidya Sinha

“Achanak Ye man,

Kisike Jaane ke baad,

Kare Phir Uski Yaad,

Choti Choti Si Baat”

This is one of my favorite romantic movies, though I wasn’t even conceived when it had released. . Amol Palekar and Vidya Sinha looked so effortlessly natural together that every time I watch this movie, I just wish that they could have been together in real life too.

5. Aamir Khan – Juhi Chawla

“Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak”, “Hum Hain Raahi Pyar Ke”, “Ishq”. What do these movies have in common; the cutest and chirpiest couple, Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla. They look so adorable and in-love, even while they are bickering, that one can’t help but fantasize about these two ending up together. Now, it is another issue that nearly 20 years after these movies, they both are happily married to their respective spouses.

6. Salman Khan – Bhagyashree

“Mere Rang Me Rangne Wali,

Pari Ho Ya Ho Pariyon Ki Rani,

Ya Ho Meri Prem Kahani”

I had a crush on Salman Khan, for a long time after I had seen this movie for the first time, which must have been around 10 years ago. This movie, and the quintessential Prem, had become the man of many girls’ dreams, from what I hear from my mother.

All we know is, when Prem sings this sensuous song to the beautiful Suman on the terrace, we all go gaga and swoon. Why didn’t they run off and get married???

7. Shahrukh Khan – Kajol

“Raj Agar Ye Tujhe Pyar Karti Hai, To Ye Palat Ke Dekhegi. Palat.. Palat.. Palat..”

And, when Simran turns, our hearts melt for this couple. Be it as Raj-Simran of DDLJ, or as Rahul-Anjali of KKHH and K3G, there is not a single movie of theirs when we have not fallen in love with. Remember the “Rain Dance” scene from KKHH? Need I say more? Well, though Kajol is happily married to Ajay, and Shah Rukh to Gauri, and we love both these couples, sometimes, we can’t help but think of an alternate universe where these two end up together.

8. Akshay Kumar – Shilpa Shetty

They set the screen on fire with “Chura Ke Dil Mera” song, and made everyone fell in love with their story in “Dhadkan”. Not the best looking couple, but the intensity of their characters’ love was too much for us poor and ordinary souls, and as a result many of us ended up fantasizing of them landing up together, forever.

9. Shahid Kapoor – Amrita Rao

Their debut college love story “Ishk Vishk” was loved by everyone, and so were Amrita and Shahid, who looked every bit as cute and innocent as their love story in the film. Post that, in “Vivaah”, as mature characters, we all fell for the handsome and decent Shahid, and beautiful and shy Amrita.

Honestly, they looked so good together, that it was a wonder our dear “Sanskaari Babuji” Alok Nath ji, did not come to put a “Kaala Teeka” on the screen.

10. Ranbir Kapoor – Deepika Padukone

Scene 1: “Tumhari Smile Kitni Dangerous Hai Pata Hai? Mere Paas Dil Hota na, To Pakka Teri Smile Pe Aa Jata”

Scene 2: “Tumhare Jaisi Ladkiyan Flirting Ke Liye Nahi, Ishq Ke Liye Bani Hain”

Scene 3: “Mujhe Tumse Pyar Ho Jayega, Phir Se. Aur Tumhe Nahi Hoga, Phir Se”

Honestly, if these dialogues between Bunny and Naina weren’t enough to melt your heart, nothing ever will. This estranged couple was sporting enough to come back for the movie, and what a mind blowing chemistry it was, and all we can say at the end is, ”Ranbir, you are a complete idiot to let Deepika go.”

11. Ranveer Singh – Anushka Sharma

The Janakpuri fame Bitto Sharma and Shruti Kakkar entered our lives totally “Band, Baaja, Baaraat” kinds. We loved these college grads in the movie, and fell for them again, as two adorable crooks in “Ladies vs Ricky Bahl”. Now one botched up lip and lightening job later, Anushka is happy with angry young man of the Indian cricket team, Virat, and Ranveer with Deepika who looks and behaves more like an elder sister. All we dream about is the dialogue, where Bittoo proposes to Shruti.

“Yaar tere bina kisi cheez me mauj nahi hai, na ladkiyan taadne me, na chai me na chowmein me. Tere saath to kaam bhi mauj hai, vellagiri bhi. Kaam to main thoda bahot isliye kar leta hu kit u smile ke saath very good bol deti hai. Mere baap ne life me mere ko good tak nahi bola. Jab tak mauj thi life me business bhi chalta, yahan mauj gayi life se business bhi thapp. Is mauj ko love bolte hain to mujhe love se koi dar nahi hai. Main tujhe bahot bahot bahot love karunga aur tujhse dher saara love lunga. Bol, degi love?”

Can we do a collective “Awwwww”

12. Abhishek Bachhan – Rani Mukerji

This Bunty and Bubly of Bollywood rocked the silver screen together. In fact, if I am not wrong, at some point of time, the flirtations looked really serious. After that, what happened and why did these two separated their ways to deprive us of one of the cutest couples, no one knows.

All we know is, though, they are happily married to their respective partners, Aishwarya is too successful for Abhishek, and Aditya Chopra too old for the vivacious Rani. Together, however, they were perfect.

So folks, this was my list of dream reel couples. Who are yours?
