Mainstream is currently recruiting for a Development Project Manager, Ireland who will lead a project team to develop one or more of Mainstream’s Irish wind farm projects. Please note this is temporary position for maternity leave cover.

Mainstream is seeking an experienced renewables professional with extensive knowledge and experience of the Irish renewables market and project managing wind development projects.

Key Responsibilities and Activities

Ensure that all Mainstream projects are developed and constructed in accordance with Mainstream’s SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) policies and procedures and in accordance with all applicable Irish and EU legislation and statutory requirements

Live Mainstream’s six corporate value and lead by example in displaying them

Develop a portfolio of wind farm projects through the first two of Mainstream’s four project stage gates with a target to deliver an agreed number of MW to each stage each year (the agreed MW targets). Progress through gates 3 and 4 will be managed by an Asset Delivery PM:

Gate 1: In development

Gate 2: Fully consented

Gate 3: Financial Close

Gate 4: Commercial Operation Date (COD)

Lead a project team to develop your assigned projects through the agreed MW targets including but not limited to the following specific development activities on each project:

Due diligence on potential Greenfield opportunities

Secure land control (options, leases, wayleaves, rights of way)

Coordinate energy analysis on the wind resources

Coordinate all environmental studies and EIAs required to permit the project

Secure a commercially viable grid connection for your projects

Obtain a commercially viable PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) for your projects

Lead any public affairs and marketing efforts require to progress your projects

An Asset Delivery project manager will take responsibility for the project once consented and lead the project through Mainstreams 3rd and 4th stage gates and the following activities. You will be required to support the Asset Delivery PM with ongoing development activities as part of the project team through project stage gates 3 and 4:

Complete all engineering work required to tender the construction contracts

Procure the construction contracts

Financially close the project

Construct the project

Hand the project over to the operator

Key Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Degree in Engineering, Energy, Business or Environment with a minimum of 5 years experience. A qualification in electrical / power engineering would be an advantage.

Knowledge of the island of Ireland renewables market specifically:

 REFIT

The Gate Processing Approach (Gates 1 – 3) for connecting windfarms to the grid

The Irish Planning system and guidelines for windfarms

Irish and EU environmental and EIA legislation

Legal terms of industry standard land agreements (option, lease, walyeave, ROW)

The SEM (Single Electricity Market)

 Experience working with key Irish wind stakeholders:

Eirgrid and ESB Networks

The CER

The Departments of Environment and Energy (DCENR)

IWEA

Utilities and state bodies working in the wind energy sector (ESB, Borg Gais, SSE, Bord na Mona, Coillte, Viridian / Energia, etc)

Developers currently active in the Irish market (as competitors and acquisition targets)

Local and national stakeholders who contribute to the EIA and planning process (NPWS, Teagasc, Fisheries, EPA, Forestry Service, town and county councils, etc)

Organisations purchasing power from wind projects in Irish wind industry

Banks providing finance to the Irish wind industry

Consultant engineers to the Irish wind industry

Civil and electrical contractors to the Irish wind industry

Turbine suppliers to the Irish wind industry

Legal firms supplying legal services to the Irish wind industry

Independent engineers supplying services to the Irish wind industry

Procurement and contract administration experience is required. You will be required to procure services, equipment and works from a selection of vendors, execute contracts with these vendors and then administer and close out these contracts.

Project management experience is required and a project management qualification (such as PMP) would be an advantage

Commercial savvy and negotiations skills are a must. You will be required to propose and negotiate commercial terms with potential acquisition targets and with the various other project stakeholders and must be comfortable leading and closing these negotiations.
