I have been fishing salt exclusively since late May having my typical successes and failures often found in the sport of striper hunting, overall it has been a decent year for myself (and most others on this forum) learning many new things and creating a few new patterns that seem to work pretty well.

I like to create my own patterns or new improved versions of older patterns and see if they work or don't work, most are failures, but every now and then,....

Anyhow the Fall striper run is in full force and Salmon and trout are definitely in the rivers now, so it is a tough choice to make, "should I continue to fish for good quality Striped bass and Bluefish? or changeover to freshwater gear and lighter tackle as well as dry lines?"( I love casting small flies on a dryline after a full season in the salt casting sinkers on a 7 weight, what a difference!!!)

It will be freshwater for the next month for me, I love to fish fall salmon.

My trusty 7 weight is going to be my rod of choice this fall as it is 10' long and I roll cast in most cases, a bit of one handed spey fishing of sorts. The 7 should be perfect to lift my heavy big nymphs and marabous out of the water and place them where they need to be.

This week will be a week of preparation for the coming vacation, I have been tying time consuming stoneflies and hellegramites as well as my favorite caddis emergers, mini buggers and streamer teasers....very much looking forward to cool mornings in the sweetwater!!!!

Nothing like a bit of ice in the guides!

Will post results and a few planned vid clips showing my nymph swinging technique for these tough fall salmon...pics of the fall are always a treat as well.
