(Camden, ME) Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul and Mary fame) continues to be one of the most notable activist folk singers from the 1960s era of America’s Folk music revival. He returns to the Camden Opera House on Saturday, September 3 at 7:30 pm to headline Camden’s Windjammer Festival Weekend. Stookey’s performance marks his second non-consecutive year headlining this event.

“Noel’s show in 2014 sold out with local ticket buyers before our Windjammer Festival visitors even arrived in town or had a chance to purchase tickets,” according to Kerry Hadley, Camden Opera House Manager. “We hope by having Noel return that even more people will have the opportunity to enjoy his very special evening of warmth and music.”

It’s been over 50 years since Peter, Paul and Mary walked with the Revered Martin Luther King during the March on Washington and were inspired by his memorable speech that day. Famous for their rendition of “If I Had a Hammer”, “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Puff the Magic Dragon”, they earned multiple gold and platinum albums, as well as numerous Grammy awards.

Stookey has been altering both the musical and ethical landscape of this country and the world for decades – both as the “Paul” of the legendary group and as an independent musician who passionately believes in bringing the spiritual into the practice of daily life.  He and his wife Elizabeth have created a multi-faith presentation, One Light, Many Candles (www.onelightmanycandles.org) which they present nationally.

Funny, irreverently reverent, thoughtful, compassionately passionate – Noels’ voice is known all across this land:  from the “Wedding Song” to “In These Times”.  The Camden Opera House heartily welcomes him back to the Windjammer Festival!

Sunday Concert with James Montgomery Also Part of Windjammer Weekend

When blues legend James Montgomery plays the harmonica, he “brings it on home”. Whether it’s recording with Kid Rock, sitting in with Gregg Allman, or fronting his hot band of thirty years, Montgomery plays with authority. While growing up in Detroit, he learned first-hand from the masters – James Cotton, John Lee Hooker, and Jr. Wells at the legendary “Chessmate.” Over the years, he’s carried on the tradition and continues to be a vital presence in the blues scene as one of the most dynamic performers.

In his fifty year career James Montgomery has performed with everyone from the Allman Brothers and the Rolling Stones to BB King and Bonnie Raitt, and was also a member of the Johnny Winter Band. He is currently supporting his new record From Detroit to the Delta. On Sunday, September 4 he will be performing at the Camden Opera House with old friends Bruce Marshall and the Nor’Easters as his supporting band. The Nor’Easters have played with James many times over the years and they are very excited to bring this line up for the first time to the Opera House.

The Nor’Easters have some notoriety of their own: Bruce Marshall was a member of the Toy Caldwell Band (Marshall Tucker) and bassist Al Hospers was with Blood Sweat and Tears as well as Buddy Rich. Guitarist Chuck Farrell performed with members of Starship, Chris Issac Band and Boston.

Opening the show will be acoustic dynamo Charlie Farren. Folks may remember Charlie as the leader of the Joe Perry Project and Fahrenheit. Charlie always brings a high energy performance you won’t forget. He has recently been the opening act for Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Lou Graham of Foreigner.
