Decided to compile a list of the top 10 greatest boy bands to enlighten those young girls that there are/were great boy bands probably better than One Direction. However, 1D did make it to the number one spot due to their popularity and fame (okay, I admit, they have an amazing voice). Here’s 10 Great Boy Bands of all time.

The Jackson 5


The Jackson 5 was one of the biggest pop-music acts of the 1970’s. The Jacksons have sold 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They were the first few musical acts in recording history to have their first four major label singles, “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save” and “I’ll Be There” reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100. The Jacksons were one of the first black teen idols to cross race lines, thanks to being heavily promoted on shows like “American Bandstand” and “Ed Sullivan

New Kids on the Block


Admit it, you had a New Kids on the Block pillow case, so you could kiss each member goodnight before you went to bed. The band consists of brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood. New Kids on the Block enjoyed success in the late 1980s and early 1990s and have sold 80 million records worldwide. They were discovered by Maurice Starr and had their initial success with the singles, “Please Don’t Go Girl” and ” You Got It

The Beatles


The Beatles were an English rock band that formed in Liverpool, in 1960. With John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they became widely regarded as the greatest and most influential act of the rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented with several genres, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelic and hard rock, often incorporating classical elements in innovative ways. In the early 1960s, their enormous popularity first emerged as “Beatlemania”, but as their songwriting grew in sophistication they came to be perceived as an embodiment of the ideals shared by the era’s sociocultural revolutions.

Hanson

Hanson is an American band from Tulsa, Oklahoma formed by brothers Isaac (guitar, bass, piano, vocals), Taylor (keyboards, piano, guitar, drums, vocals) and Zac (drums, piano, guitar, vocals). Supporting members include Dimetres Collins (keyboards, guitar), and William Birkhead (bass) who have been with the band since 2007. They are best known for the 1997 hit song “MMMBop” from their major label debut album Middle of Nowhere, which earned three Grammy nominations.

Backstreet Boys

Backstreet Boys formed in Orlando, Florida in 1993. The group’s members, A. J., Howie, Nick, Kevin and Brian rose to fame with their debut international album, “Backstreet Boys” in 1996. They followed that with “Backstreet’s Back” and “Millennium”. The album entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1, and sold 1,134,000 copies in its first week of release. Their best selling release, “Millennium” remained on the Billboard chart for 93 weeks, selling over 12 million copies in the United States and certified 13 times platinum.

N Sync

Young girls were ripe and ready for this quintet pulled together in Orlando, Florida. Backstreet Boys were finishing their initial run, New Kids were old hat. Then, in walked ‘N Sync; Justin, Lance, Joey, Chris and J.C., who were you average boy band on an adrenaline rush! The band honed their chops in Germany, where their debut album peaked at number one the second week of its release. The group released its first American single, “I Want You Back” and it reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. ‘N Sync’s debut eponymous album eventually was certified diamond for shipments in excess of 10 million units.

Westlife

Westlife were an Irish boy band, formed in July 1998 and disbanded in June 2012. Originally signed by Simon Cowell and managed by Louis Walsh, the group’s final line-up consisted of Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan. Brian McFadden was a member from July 1998 until his departure in March 2004. Westlife sold over 50 million records worldwide, a total that included studio albums, singles, video releases, and compilation albums. The group accumulated 14 number-one singles in the United Kingdom. They achieved a total of 26 UK top ten singles over their 14-year career. Westlife are the most frequent winner of The Record of the Year, winning four times, and in 2012, the Official Charts Company listed Westlife 34th amongst the biggest-selling singles artists in British music history.

Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers were an American pop rock band. Formed in 2005, they gained popularity from the Disney Channel children’s television network and consists of three brothers from Wyckoff, New Jersey; Paul Kevin Jonas II, Joseph Adam Jonas, and Nicholas Jerry Jonas. In the summer of 2008 they starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock and its sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. They also starred as Kevin, Joe, and Nick Lucas, the band JONAS, in their own Disney Channel series JONAS, which was later re-branded for its second season as Jonas L.A. The show was eventually cancelled after two seasons. The band released four albums: It’s About Time (2006), Jonas Brothers (2007), A Little Bit Longer (2008), and Lines, Vines and Trying Times (2009).

The Wanted

The Wanted are an English-Irish boy band consisting of members Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes. They formed in 2009 and were signed worldwide to Universal Music subsidiaries Island Records and Mercury Records, and managed by Scooter Braun. The band’s debut album, The Wanted, was released on 25 October 2010 and peaked at number four on the UK Album chart. The album spawned three UK top 20 singles: their debut single “All Time Low”, which debuted at number one, “Heart Vacancy”, which reached number two, and “Lose My Mind”, which peaked at number 19.

One Direction

One of the most popular boy bands to come out of England in many years, One Direction was groomed by producer Simon Cowell after they came in third place on 2010’s “X-Factor.” They were the first boy band to gain much of their success through the use of social media to connect with their fans.
