Jonathan Alder world language students took 12 medals this year in the National Spanish Examinations.

Area students earned one gold, four silver and seven bronze medals, as well as 15 honorable mentions.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” stated Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams. “The exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 160,000 students participating in 2016.”

More than 160,000 students across the U.S. voluntarily took the standardized assessments this year.

A total of 60 Jonathan Alder Spanish students were among them taught by Spanish teachers, Lindsay Dollinger and Jessica Flere.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in sixth through 12th grades, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

​Matthew Snyder earned gold, scoring higher than 98 percent of the students in the country.

Earning silver were Sarah Harp, Karlie Kaizer​, Sandy Moser and Ryan Rennie.

Earning bronze were Michael Ferrito​, Max Gerckens, Clair Grywalski, Jenna Hollinger, ​Serenity Kirts, Natalie Schlatter and Nora Squires.

Earning honorable mention were Grayson Abend, Caitlyn Craig, Abby Dickman​, Kayleigh Hall, Victor Fenik, Ben Grywalski, Maryn Herring, Alex Huggins, Travis Kile, Shane Lisinski, Trey Mast, Madison McMillen, Sara Pothast​, Zachary Robbins​ and Troy Schleich.
