The San Alfonso del Mar resort in Chile is home to the world’s largest outdoor pool. The pool is made of over 66 million gallons of clear seawater and is 20 sizes larger than an Olympic swimming pool. Along the length of the pool is the Pacific coast in the city of Algarrobo, Chile. The pool opened in December 2006, after 5 years of construction and $4 million in development costs. A sophisticated computerised filtration system is used to extract water from the ocean and pump it into the pool. The outdoor resort comes with is own artificial beach and water facilities such as small sailing boats to help cover the 3,323ft pool.
