Welcome to Day 1 on the Ruby Red Designs First Blush Blog Hop.  I'm so excited to be part of this 18-day blog hop celebrating this month's arrival of Ruby Red Designs' First Blush fabric collection online and in quilt stores AND what a fantastic giveaway I have for you later in this post!

Disclosure/Disclaimer:

First Blush fabrics for the Just One Block quilt as well as the FQ bundle and Aurifil Thread giveaway prizes are supplied by Windham Fabrics and Aurifil for the purposes of the blog hop and at no cost to mbCD.  All other materials are my own.  In all other respects, this post is for informational purposes only and no payment or commission is received on click-throughs to links shared.

A few months ago Windham Fabrics sent me a gorgeous First Blush FQ bundle with instructions to play with, the instructions were super easy 'make something to share on the fabric release blog hop'.  I don't know about you but I'm not turning down the chance to play with fabric and especially gorgeous fabric like this so you can bet I was in!!

!Here's Windham's description of the collection:

First Blush by Ruby Red Designs is a celebration of the first bloom of the season. Fresh pinks, aqua, and reds bring new life to vintage-inspired prints. Striking ginghams and Sunkist dot prints offer a great backdrop to the florals.

I designed a quilt block earlier this year and was waiting for the right opportunity to make it up as a quilt top and turn it into a pattern for my readers.  As soon as I saw the First Blush collection I knew it was perfect to showcase my Just One Block quilt design.

I fell in love with the First Blush collection's modern take on vintage, those primary colours are muted just enough to have visual impact without being too bold and the designs are cute in a good way absolutely not little girl sugary or kitsch. In keeping with the fabric's simple nostalgic feel I kept my quilting minimal and top side invisible - stitch in the ditch.  This also gives the quilt that puffy, crinkly look we expect to see on a farmhouse bed, and just what I was aiming for with this version of my Just One Block quilt.
