Mixing it up a little.

Sharing an idea that one of my “Creative Ladies” sent me. Thanks Kristy!   Kristy’s church used wooden spoons to give out for Mother’s Day with the verse, 2 Timothy 1:6 about stirring up the gift of God.

“Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God,

which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.”   2Timothy 1:6 (KJV)

I thought this topic would be a great idea for a ladies meeting revolving around stirring up the gift of God.  Paul is talking to Timothy in this passage and spurring him on to serve and witness for Christ.  Great motivation for our ladies groups.  In the verse preceding this Paul talks about Timothy’s “unfeigned faith“.  That means sincere or genuine faith.  Paul’s encouraging Timothy to use that faith to serve Christ.  The “stir up” in this passage refers to keeping the fire burning.  Stirring up the kindling.  Allowing the fire to burn.  Fanning the flames.  In other words, allow the Holy Spirit to work.  Then in the verses after, Paul tells Timothy, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord…“    So much encouragement to serve the Lord is packed into this passage of Scripture.

Kristy put her verse tag with wooden spoons but I thought it might be fun with coffee or tea too.  I just put a portion of the verse on one of the tags and made a “thank you” on the other tag.  I thought they’d be nice for favors but also might make a sweet little gift for someone who always shares their love and witness for Christ.

The little spoons in my photo are from the Dollar Tree but you can get them almost anywhere you get party supplies.  They are plastic with a silver look.  At the Dollar Tree they are with all the wedding catering stuff.   You can pick up the tags like in the photo at the bottom of this post.

I made a little card with the “Thank You” printable tag.  The coffee pod is a Folgers Vanilla Biscotti (mmm!)  I crimped a piece of Kraft paper to go around it to sort of simulate a take out coffee cup.  Then I tied it with baker’s twine and embroidery floss.

The second idea is to use the tag containing the portion of the verse with instant coffee.  I placed a crimped piece of Kraft paper around cardstock and tied around it with baker’s twine and embroidery floss; then slid the coffee pack and spoon through.

The next idea is to use the printable verse tag with a packet of tea.  I just folded a piece of cardstock slightly bigger than the tea packet I had and stapled. (just be careful to leave room so you don’t staple the tea bag itself).  Again, I tied baker’s twine and floss to slide the spoon through   Folded cardstock or scrapbook paper with a teabag inside is an easy, quick, and inexpensive favor.

Below are the photos Kristy shared.  You can click on the photos for an enlarged view.

Thanks again to Kristy for sharing this idea along with her photos!
