Belgacom is today launching the “Belgacom m2m factory” platform for companies wanting to use machine-to-machine (m2m) applications.

Entrepreneurs can from now on build and manage their own complete m2m application with the different building blocks: hardware, applications and connectivity via Belgacom’s mobile and fixed network. Belgacom is also opening this platform to application developers and is working with technology partners such as Option.

Ever more m2m applications

Machine-to-machine (m2m) is a service with which companies can exchange information with machines, devices, vehicles and systems. The sensors in machines and devices can measure such diverse elements as temperature, location, consumption, heart rate, light, movement or speed.

Examples of m2m solutions include remote read-out of stock levels of drinks vending machines, tracking of vehicles, operation of lighting and heating equipment, transmission of patient data and monitoring of environmental factors when storing goods.

More and more companies are using m2m applications as they allow them to optimize their efficiency, service and operating processes. Sensors that perform measurements are also increasingly integrated as standard in devices and machines.

Companies build and manage their own m2m solution from A to Z

Since the beginning of this year, Belgacom customers have been able to use the m2m Connectivity platform to manage their devices in a highly flexible way: using the fixed and/or mobile network, billing, and connecting or disconnecting devices and reporting systems.

Today Belgacom is going one step further, launching the “Belgacom m2m factory” platform on which application developers and companies can build their own m2m solutions. They can build and manage the applications quickly, simply and in a customized way. Complex application programming is a thing of the past. The platform vendor is technology and product developer ILS Technology.

In collaboration with Option: CloudGate, the intelligent m2m gateway

Belgacom will be collaborating with different technology partners so that companies can use the machines seamlessly, without any further adaptations being required. The first result is the partnership that Belgacom concluded with Option to incorporate CloudGate, the intelligent m2m gateway, in its offer. CloudGate is a flexible, intelligent gateway that makes it possible to roll out a new m2m solution quickly and reliably.

Many companies are not getting the maximum benefit from m2m because they’re still partially monitoring their devices manually, or because their software systems are not integrated. With Belgacom’s new m2m offering, companies can from now deploy easily and rapidly innovative m2m applications without large software development efforts. They can build and manage their own complete m2m application with the different building blocks: hardware, applications and connectivity via Belgacom’s mobile and fixed network.
