Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard yesterday gave instructions for homicide officers to charge a 29-year-old man with the murder of a T&TEC worker.

Keiron Ramkhelawan, 31, of Montrose, Chaguanas, was gunned down on April 4 during a robbery at his friend’s home at Bennette Drive, Palmiste.

He was the son of San Fernando health inspector John Ramkhelawan.

Keiron Ramkhelawan, who worked at the T&TEC North Distribution Centre, may have attempted to fight off the bandits to protect his friends, who were in the house during the ambush in April.

Police said Ramkhelawan and his friend, Davey Hosein, 36, of Bennet Drive, Palmiste, and other family members went to a lime and returned home around 6 pm.

Fifteen minutes after they entered the yard, two bandits ambushed them and forced their way into the kitchen area. In an attempt to save the children, Ramkhelawan put up a fight and was shot twice on the chest.

The suspect, of Peter Street, La Romaine, who was arrested on Friday during a road block, and spent the weekend doing multiple identification parades.

He was positively identified for robberies and common assault in the South and Central regions.

Police said once the suspect is charged for murder, he will appear before a San Fernando Magistrate.

Last Friday, the suspect was in company with Andrew Augustus, 40, of San Juan, Lauren Balkaran, 31, of Peter Street, La Romaine and Crystal John, 29, of Cemetery Street, Valsayn, when police intercepted their car.

Investigators searched the car and found a loaded pistol, seven live rounds of ammunition and a quantity of marijuana.

Augustus, Balkaran and John appeared before a Princes Town Magistrate charged with possession of arms and ammunition and possession of marijuana.
