BEST SUPPLEMENTS FOR HARD GAINERS

So I am going to make this post straight and to the point! Supplements are super handy if you are on a quest to build some curves and put on some lean mass but are having a hard time! Why? Because even with our best attempt to eat lots of good nutritious food, sometimes we need a little help!

Are you wondering if supplements will make you just big and bulky? Let me tell ya that they won’t! Most of us can benefit from using some supplements to compliment our diet! Although I do not generally use a lot of supplements, I have used them for years. The trick is knowing which supplements to use at what times! Supplements are manufactured from REAL food so they are generally healthy and safe to consume (with the exception of a few bad ones like fat burners and Nitric Oxide supplements).

Some supplements can come in handy when trying to gain weight!

Here are 5 supplements that I would strongly recommend for all you hard gainers who are trying to build some curves!

Protein:

Every cell, organ and tissue in our body is made up of protein. Protein affects our enzymes, hormones, immune system, cardiovascular health and of course our skeletal muscle! Most of us just simply do not get enough protein from our diet so best to add a QUALITY isolated whey or vegan protein powder! Stick to  an isolated whey protein as it is the fastest absorbing protein. If you are a vegan or are intolerant to dairy, grab a vegan protein! Need more help? Check out my post on how to pick out a quality protein powder on my Hourglass Body blog.

Creatine Ethyl Ester:

Our bodies have a certain amount of creatine within the muscle to help during workout and with protein synthesis. But most of us (and specially hard gainers) need more! Creatine Ethyl Ester is the fastest absorbing creatine out on the market. It can be hugely beneficial for hard gainers. Creatine can help you perform better in the gym which means more sets, reps and WORK! This in turn translates to muscle growth. It can also leads to cell volumization which allows for improved protein synthesis (aka muscle growth!) Last but not least, creatine also improve recovery and aerobic capacity. This all leads to MORE MUSCLE!

ZMA:

ZMA is a combination zinc monomethionine/asparate and magnesium aspartate plus vitamin B6. It helps you remain anabolic and maintain testosterone levels (yes, females to have some testosterone!). This in turn creates a better environment for muscle growth! ZMA also helps improve your quality of sleep which means improved recovery. Zinc is also critical for thyroid production, improved metabolism and protein synthesis. Yup, all things that contribute to growth and muscle maintenance.

BCAAs or EAAs:

BCAAs or  Branched Chained Amino Acids are essential amino acids that our bodies use for recovery and maintaining muscle mass. They can only be absorbed from diet. Best to use BCAAs (or EAAs if your are a non-meat eater) to ensure your body is always in an anabolic state. I recommend taking BCAAs during your workouts!

Essential Fatty Acids:

Dietary fats are necessary for general health and cell metabolism. Some dietary fats can be manufactured from other fats like saturated and unsaturated fats. But essential fatty acids (namely Omega 3s and Omega 6s) cannot be. They have to be ingested thus supplementation is recommended. Essential Fatty Acids can improve body composition and performance. They can help with insulin sensitivity and the production of growth hormone… which as you know leads to muscle growth!

Building curves and muscles doesn’t have to be complicated! Eat lots of good food, rest, workout and supplement appropriately and you will sure make some gains!
