Anfang letzter Woche zog es mich mal wieder ins wunderschöne Berlin. Zwar hieß es “Fashion Week”, aber das Zelt habe ich dieses Mal gar nicht besucht (nicht mal gesehen, denn am Brandenburger Tor war ich – leider! – nicht mal ansatzweise).
Von Montag bis Mittwoch habe ich Events besucht und war auf der zweiten “Curvy is sexy”-Plus-Size-Messe, von der ich natürlich einiges zu erzählen habe.
Ich muss zugeben, den “normalen” Fashion-Trubel habe ich doch ein kleines Bisschen vermisst. Nur zu gern hätte ich im Publikum der Show von Lena Hoschek gesessen, die mich zumindest auf den Fotos hinterher schwer begeistert hat (so wie immer!). Immerhin sind ihre Kleider perfekt für Kurven – und genau diese Schnitte habe ich auf der Messe leider sehr vermisst (und meinen Unmut darüber auch ungefähr an jedem Stand kundgetan, haha!). :)
Die Messe hat sich dennoch gemacht und mir sind doch einige positive Aspekte aufgefallen, die mir letztes Mal gefehlt haben. Ein bisschen Kritik gibt’s natürlich auch – aber ich bin davon überzeugt, dass auch davon bei der nächsten Messe im Sommer wieder ein paar Punkte von der Liste gestrichen werden können! :)

Last week, Berlin was calling. It was “Fashion Week”, but I didn’t go to the tent. From Monday to Wednesday I visited events and the second “Curvy is sexy” plus-size fair – and I have a lot to tell.
I have to admit that I actually missed the “normal” fashion turmoil a bit. I would have been overfond of visiting the Lena Hoschek show, which at least wowed me (as always!) afterwards when I saw the pictures. After all, her dresses are perfect for curves – and I really missed these kinds of dresses at the fair (and made my opinion known at every stand, haha!). :)
But the fair has gotten on and I found many positive aspects this time that had been missing last year. Of course, there are also a few things I’d criticize – but I’m sure that I will be able to check off some points after the next fair in summer! :)
Am Montag habe ich mich, zusammen mit meinem Freund, mit dem Auto auf den Weg nach Berlin gemacht – zu zweit macht es schließlich noch ein bisschen mehr Spaß und wenn der Fotograf dabei ist, schadet das auch nicht. :)
Abends war ich von Nokia zu einem Foto-Workshop im wunderschönen → Stue Hotel eingeladen. Wir haben alle das Nokia → “Lumia 1020” in die Hand gedrückt bekommen (und ich gebe mir immer noch Mühe, damit klarzukommen – der Umstieg vom iPhone auf das Nokia mit Windows 8 ist gar nicht mal so easy, auch wenn es mir mittlerweile ganz gut gefällt!), gelernt, wie das mit dem Fotografieren funktioniert (die Kamera ist mit 41 Megapixel aktuell die beste Smartphone-Kamera auf dem Markt), und hatten einen exklusiven Einblick in die Kollektionen von → Marcel Ostertag (sogar noch, bevor er sie mittwochs im Zelt präsentiert hat, yeah!) und → Jila & Jale (in die ich mich ganz schnell verliebt habe – die beiden sind Zucker!). Mitgebracht hatten die drei auch drei Models, von denen mir zwei direkt bekannt vorkamen – Shawny, die bei GNTM mitgemacht hatte, Anika, die “Das perfekte Model” gewonnen hat (und mit der ich ein ganz nettes Gespräch über Models und Essen hatte) und Johanna. Die Drei haben sich dann in Schale geworfen, sind für uns gelaufen und haben posiert, damit wir fleißig Fotos schießen konnten. Anschließend gab es einige Leckereien (darunter grüner Mini-Spargel im gesalzenen Tempuramantel – der absolute Wahnsinn, sowie unbeschreiblich leckere Mini-Burger und die wohl weltbeste “Crema Catalana”, die ich jemals gegessen habe) und nun sitze ich hier und versuche, mit dem großen gelben Smartphone klarzukommen. :D Eine Review kann ich euch nicht garantieren, aber ich probiere auf jeden Fall noch fleißig aus!
Attitude with Nokia and Anna // Shoeception! // Shawny in “Jila & Jale”
On Monday, I was invited by Nokia to be part of a photo workshop with their → “Lumia 1020” at the wonderful → Stue Hotel. We all got our own smartphones (and I’m still trying to understand it – it’s not that easy to change from an iPhone over to Nokia with Windows 8, but by now, I actually like it!), learned how to use the camera (at the moment, this is the best smartphone camera on the market, with 41 megapixels) and were given an exclusive preview of → Marcel Ostertag’s collection (before he presented it in the tent on Wednesday), and → Jila & Jale (I immediately fell in love with these cuties!) presented their current collection. Three models showed us the clothes, walking and posing for us to take pictures with our smartphones. After that, we were spoiled with some delicious treats (including salted green mini-asparagus tempura, incredible mini-burgers and probably the world’s best “Crema Catalana”), and now I’m sitting here with a huge yellow smartphone, trying to get along with it. :D I can’t guarantee a review, but I’m still giving it a try!

Nach einer wunderbaren Nacht in meinem Lieblingshotel in Berlin, dem “i31” (wunderbares Design, flauschige Bettchen und super Service!), ging es am Dienstag zusammen mit den Einkäufern von → navabi auf die “Curvy is sexy”. Ich habe das Team exklusiv begleitet und war beim Order-Termin bei Carmakoma dabei, wo ich ordentlich mitgemischt habe. Ich habe mit ausgesucht, anprobiert, ein bisschen gemeckert (nicht nur bei Carmakoma – viele Sachen sind schnitttechnisch für Menschen mit meinem Körperbau, also oben schmal, unten breit, einfach gar nicht gut und die findet man zu 95% bei allen Marken) und mein absolutes Traumstück gefunden, das – wenn man mich nicht einfach in dem Moment nur ruhigstellen wollte, haha! – ich höchstpersönlich für euch (und mich!) eingekauft habe und das, wenn es dann soweit ist (alle Teile werden etwa im August geliefert), bei navabi online erhältlich sein wird. Ich hoffe also, ihr steht hinter mir! ;)
Ansonsten war ich natürlich auch auf eigene Faust unterwegs, habe mir die wahnsinnig vielen Kleidungsstücke einiger Marken, die mich besonders interessiert haben, genauer angeschaut und – wie ich schon kurz erwähnt habe – bei allen ein bisschen gemeckert. Und zwar, dass es zu wenig ausgestellte Kleider im Plus-Size-Segment gibt. Das Meiste sind Etuikleider, mit ein bisschen Glück mit angedeuteter Taille – aber für mich gehen solche Kleider einfach gar nicht. Mein Größendilemma kennt ihr ja bereits: oben bin ich eher eine 42, unten eine 46/48. Das bereitet mir natürlich nicht nur beim Kleiderkauf Probleme, wenn es nur enge und gerade Schnitte gibt, sondern zum Beispiel auch bei Blusen (entweder sie passt oben und geht dann nicht bis unten zu oder ich kann sie zuknöpfen und oben steht alles extrem ab). Dementsprechend habe ich es auf der Messe als meine Mission gesehen, allen mitzuteilen, dass ich mir mehr ausgestellte Kleider wünsche, am liebsten natürlich im Fifties-Style (womit wir wieder bei Lena Hoschek wären – wie wär’s mit “Plus Size”, liebste Lena??). :)
Und dann habe ich es gefunden. Kurz nachdem unser Order-Termin bei Carmakoma fertig und die Bestellliste abgeheftet war, wurde es von irgendwem wieder an seinen Platz gehängt. DAS Kleid. Eins von nur zwei (!) ausgestellten Kleidern auf der gesamten Messe. Perfektion in einem Kleid. Schwarz mit goldenen Polkadots. Große Liebe, aufgeregte Lu! Denn meine lieben Einkäufer waren bereits weitergezogen. :) In das Kleid gehüllt flitzte ich also an ein paar Ständen vorbei und bestand darauf, dass dieses Kleid mit aufgenommen werden muss. Und den Rest der Geschichte kennt ihr jetzt schon. :)
Rechts seht ihr das hübsche Ding – die Kombi mit Lederleggings und Bikerboots ist natürlich wahnsinnig passend und es dürfte obenrum auch noch etwas enger sein (Sample-Size 42), aber mit einem kleinen, dünnen schwarzen Gürtel (und anderem “Untenrum”) stelle ich es mir perfekt vor. :) Ist es nicht zauberhaft? Ich bin auf jeden Fall immer noch ganz hibbelig, wenn ich es so sehe, und freue mich schon darauf, es euch hoffentlich – wenn es soweit ist – nochmal genauer und natürlich auch besser kombiniert zeigen zu können. ♥

Natürlich habe ich nebenbei die Diskussionen mitbekommen, die bezüglich der Größenauswahl auf der Messe (und nicht zuletzt auch dank des höchst qualifizierten Berichts eines bestimmten Fernsehsenders) entstanden sind. Daher ein paar Worte meinerseits dazu:
Ja, es waren tatsächlich auch Sachen in Größe 38 da, zum Beispiel die dunkle, purpurfarbene Jacke von Persona da oben rechts. Ich trage bei Mänteln normalerweise eine 44 und siehe da: 38 war kein Problem! Dass das vermutlich ein kleines Ausnahmeteil war und es bei einem Kleid anders ausgesehen hätte, möchte ich natürlich mal kurz vergessen. Dennoch: eine S ist bei Plus Size so gut wie nie das Gleiche wie eine “normale” S. Ich habe einen Jumpsuit von Zizzi (den → kennt ihr schon, ich habe ihn eine Größe größer nachgekauft, nachdem er für den Blogpost nur geliehen war) in Größe M, was bei der Marke eine 46-48 ist. Das ist doch gar nicht so schlimm, oder?
Und selbst wenn: eine Plus-Size-Kollektion, die bei 38 startet, sehe ich nicht als persönliche Beleidigung (wer sich wegen des Begriffs “Plus Size” fett fühlt, ist selbst schuld, ganz ehrlich!), sondern sogar als Vorteil – denn dadurch, dass diese Kollektionen immer ganz andere sind als beim normalen Sortiment, ist es doch eigentlich ganz schön, dass sie sich dem nähert und eine Kundin, die vielleicht ein Teil daraus schön findet, aber 38 trägt, und für die es somit nicht möglich wäre, das zu kaufen, kann es jetzt tun! Vielleicht ist auch gerade das der Schritt in die richtige Richtung, wenn es darum geht, dass Kollektionen durchgehend in allen Größen erhältlich sind. Vielleicht müssen sich die großen Größen dem normalen Sortiment anpassen und nicht andersrum, wie es wohl alle erwarten? Auf jeden Fall finde ich es falsch, sich darüber aufzuregen, dass Größe 38 auf der “Plus Size Messe” vertreten war (auch wenn ich es verstehen kann, wirklich!). Dass noch Luft nach oben ist, bestreite ich aber nicht, und die Sample-Teile nur in den kleinsten Größen (also hauptsächlich 40/42) da haben, war sicher nicht der schlauste Weg – aber ich hoffe hier auf Besserung – für mehr Vielfalt! Nicht nur bei den Samples, aber dazu gleich mehr! ;)
After a great night at my favorite hotel in Berlin, the “i31” (wonderful design, fluffy beds and great service!), I spent the next day with the → navabi buyer team at the “Curvy is sexy”. I exclusively accompanied them to their order appointment at Carmakoma and got in on the act – a lot! :) I chose some pieces, tried some of them on, had to gripe a little (not only at Carmakoma – many things are just not made for a body like mine, which is slimly built at the top and wide at the bottom, and 95% of what you find is like that at all the brands) and found my absolute dream piece, which I – if they didn’t only try to silence me, haha! – exclusively bought for you (and me!) and which will be available on navabi when the time has come (the delivery date is set for August as far as I know). So I hope you’re backing me up on this! ;)
The rest of the time, I strolled around the fair by myself, taking a closer look at a lot of clothes of my favorite designers and – as I told you before – had to gripe a little. My disappointment was about flared dresses – you don’t find many in plus sizes. Instead, you get thousands of shift dresses, with a bit of luck they’re slightly waisted – but for me, these dresses don’t work. You already know my size dilemma: at the top I’m a EU 42, and because of my hips and butt, I need a EU 46/48 at the bottom. That’s not only a problem with dresses but also, for example, with blouses (if they fit at the top, I can’t button them all the way down, and if I can close all the buttons, they are way too wide at the top). That’s why I declared it my mission to tell everybody that I want more flared dresses, preferably fifties-style dresses (and we’re back at Lena Hoschek – what about plus size, dear Lena??). :)
And then I found it. Right after our order appointment was over and the order list filed, someone put it back in its place. THE dress. One of only two (!) flared dresses at the whole fair. Perfection in a dress. Black with golden polka dots. Big love, excited Lu. Because my dear buyers had already moved on. So I heeled over to them, threw on the dress and insisted that they buy it. And the rest is history. ;)
Of course, I also heard about the discussions about size diversity at the fair. So here’s what I think about it:
Yes, there really were clothes in EU size 38, for example the dark purple coat at Persona. And lo and behold – I normally need size 44 with coats, but this one fit perfectly. Maybe this was an exception and it would have been different with a dress in size 38, but: size S in plus size is not the same as a “normal” S. I’ve got a jumpsuit by Zizzi in size M – and that’s an EU 46-48! Doesn’t sound that bad, right?
And even though there’s a plus-size collection that starts at 38 – so what? I don’t feel offended by it. I, for myself, want to see this as a benefit! Since plus-size collections are always different from the “normal” ones, a woman who’s wearing size 38 and sees a special item she really likes in the plus-size collection would normally not be able to buy it (as the collections start at 44 – on average), but now – she can! Maybe it’s time that plus size started to approach the smaller sizes, not the other way round (and that’s what everyone’s expecting)?
Anyways, I think it’s wrong to rant about a size 38 at the “plus-size fair” (even though I understand it, really!). Of course, there’s still lots of room for improvement and it wasn’t the best idea to only offer the smallest sample sizes (most of them were 40/42) – but I’m still hoping for an improvement, for more diversity! Not only in the samples, but more on that in the next bit. ;)

Der Laufsteg – im Vergleich zum letzten Jahr sind mir ein paar Dinge aufgefallen: während ich mir letztes Jahr gewünscht habe, dass die Models gerne nicht nur aus der untersten Größengrenze ausgesucht werden, wurde das dieses Jahr immerhin in gewisser Weise umgesetzt. Zwar habe ich doch noch mehr Hüfte, Po und Oberschenkel gesehen; Kurven – aber auch das hielt sich in Grenzen. Lediglich ein Model stach aus der 42er-44er-Parade heraus, und seien wir ehrlich: ein “Quotenmoppel” ist zu wenig für eine Plus-Size-Messe! Begründet wurde das – natürlich – mit den kleinen Sample-Größen. Ist nur 42/44 da, müssen die Models natürlich auch die entsprechende Größe haben. Was ich bei Insta gelesen habe, nämlich “Das ist doch kein Plus Size!”, hat mich trotzdem ein bisschen enttäuscht. Natürlich sind die Models “Plus Size”! In ihrem Job! Natürlich sind sie in unseren Augen ganz normal gebaute, wunderschöne Mädchen mit einem gesunden Körper, der gerade im Vergleich zu den “normalen” Models auf der Fashion Week, doch “ein wenig mehr”, aber eben ganz normal, ist. Und genau das ist es aber eben: in der Mode ist alles, was nicht “Size Zero” ist, automatisch “Plus Size”. Und das ist in der Branche (!) auch vollkommen okay so, finde ich. Solange wir selbst in der Lage sind, zu erkennen, dass das weder eine Beleidigung sein soll, noch, dass die wunderhübschen Models “fett” sind, ist es als Job-Bezeichnung doch okay. ;)
Was noch? Die Models waren dieses Mal sehr viel motivierter – wer weiß, ob es an der Live-Performance von Maschenka lag oder an den doch nochmal viel tolleren Marken, die dieses Jahr noch mit vertreten waren? Vielleicht waren es auch einfach nur die Models selbst, die mit ihrer wahnsinnig tollen Ausstrahlung auf jeden Fall sehr viele Menschen begeistert haben – denn während letztes Jahr noch viele Sitzplätze um den Laufsteg herum frei waren und die Leute nicht mal wirklich interessiert waren, war dieses Mal die Hölle los. Bei jeder Show. Ausnahmslos. :) Und das finde ich toll, denn je mehr Aufmerksamkeit wir – die Messe und auch die “Plus Sizer” – bekommen, desto besser! Fazit: ich habe gehört, dass die Messe umziehen wird, denn die Location ist zu klein geworden! ;)
The catwalk – compared with last year, I realized a few things: while last year I would have wished for models who weren’t just wearing the smallest sizes, this year there was a little transformation. I’ve seen hips, butts and thighs; curves – but it was kept within limits. There was only one model standing out of this size 42 and 44 parade, and let’s be honest: only one token “pudge” is definitely not enough for a “plus-size fair”! The justification that was given was – of course – the sample sizes. If there’s only 42 and 44, the models have to fit into the clothes. I was very disappointed about what I read on my Instagram: “This is not plus size!”. Of course, they are “plus size”! In their jobs! Of course, they’re beautiful, normal-bodied girls, with healthy bodies that – especially compared with the “normal” Fashion Week models – are “a little more” but still normal. And that’s just it: in fashion, everything that’s not “size zero” is automatically “plus size”. And I think that’s absolutely okay in this industry (!). As long as we’re able to understand that this isn’t an insult and these beautiful models aren’t “obese”, it’s okay to use “plus size” as a job-term.
What else? This time, the models were much more motivated – who knows, maybe it was Maschenka’s live performance or the fact that the fair featured even more of the cool brands this time? Maybe it was the models with their incredible attitudes that fascinated everyone – because this year there were much more visitors watching the show. While there were many free seats around the catwalk last year, and nobody really watched the show, this time there was sheer pandemonium! At every show. Without exception. :) And this is great because the more attention we – the fair and all the plus sizers – get, the better! The result: I heard the fair will move – the location has gotten too small! ;)
Dienstagabend fand außerdem noch ein klitzekleines Bloggermeeting bei Ulla Popken statt, bei dem ich mir spontan das pinke Tüllröckchen von → Theresa überwarf, die an den drei Tagen fleißig mit Bauchladen Cakepops und Prosecco verteilt hat, und stellte mich einbeinig in den großen Bilderrahmen – wer mich kennt, weiß, dass ich bei solchen Aktionen immer vorn mit dabei bin. ;) Spaß muss sein!
Um aber noch ein paar ernsthafte Worte zu Ulla Popken zu verlieren: ich war doch positiv überrascht. Es gab das ein oder andere Teil (der Mantel da unten zum Beispiel!!!), für das ich mich doch wirklich nochmal (ich hab’ es ein Mal aus purem Forscherdrang getan, wurde von den Verkäuferinnen dort nicht mal mit dem Hintern angeschaut und war seitdem beleidigt – mal davon abgesehen, dass die Klamotten wirklich grausam waren) in den Laden wagen würde. Die Marke macht sich, wird jünger und moderner und ich bin gespannt, was uns nächste Saison präsentiert wird. :) Wir bekamen übrigens alle ein T-Shirt-DIY-Set mit, um ein eigenes Shirt nach unseren Wünschen zu designen, das mit ein bisschen Glück umgesetzt wird. Mal sehen, ob ich da was Interessantes hinbekomme – wenn ja, werde ich euch das Endergebnis bestimmt präsentieren! :)
In the evening, there also was a little blogger meetup at Ulla Popken, where I spontaneously put on → Theresa’s (she’s was distributing cake pops and prosecco with a vendor’s tray) pink tulle skirt and stood on one leg inside of a huge picture frame – everybody who knows me knows I’m always first in line with these kind of hilarious actions. ;) It’s all about fun!
But seriously: I was very surprised by Ulla Popken – there were some pieces (like that coat!) for which I’d pay another visit to their store (I was there one time, out of pure interest, and the salesladies didn’t even say hello – so I’ve been a bit huffy and, in addition, the clothes were really horrible). The brand is getting younger and more modern, I’m really curious about what it has to offer next season. :)
By the way: we all got our own DIY set for a t-shirt and can now design our very own shirt, which – with a little luck – will be fabricated by Ulla Popken. Let’s see if I can design something interesting – if so, I’ll definitely show you the result! :)

Der Mittwoch war etwas entspannter – es stand nur noch ein Termin bei TRIANGLE by s.Oliver an, nochmal ein Bloggermeeting in kleiner Runde, bei der uns die aktuelle Kollektion (und natürlich auch, was noch auf uns zukommt) vorgestellt wurde.
Auch hier ist mir wieder positiv aufgefallen, dass die Marke vom etwas altbackenen, spießig-klassischen Look immer weiter weggeht. So gab’s hier – natürlich auch neben den Klassikern! – zum Beispiel eine richtig coole Fake-Fur-Weste, Kleider mit Fake-Leder-Applikationen und Nieten, ein schönes Farbschema mit Grün, Petrol und Dunkelrot und den wohl coolsten Parka der ganzen Messe (allerdings war er nicht ausgestellt [aber irgendwie hatte ich das Gefühl, ihn auf dem Laufsteg gesehen zu haben...hm!], sondern nur auf Fotos, deshalb hab’ ich – noch! – kein Bild für euch!). Dazu war einer meiner Lieblingslooks auf dem Catwalk ebenfalls von TRIANGLE by s.Oliver – und ich hoffe schwer, dass dieses schicke Mützchen in den Verkauf kommt! :)
Ganz spontan und unerwartet war bei Zizzi anschließend ebenfalls noch ein bisschen was los und so habe ich noch ein tolles Jäckchen geschenkt bekommen (Outfit kommt bestimmt ganz bald!) und den Fotoautomaten benutzt, der während der gesamten Messe aufgestellt war, um witzige Vierer-Passfotos zu schießen. :)

Wednesday was more relaxed – there was only another little blogger meeting with TRIANGLE by s.Oliver. We got to know their current collection (and also what’s coming up).
Here, I noticed a change too – going away from the frumpy, stuffy and classic look. So we found – besides the classics! – for example a dope fake-fur vest, dresses with fake-leather applications and studs, a beautiful color scheme with green, petrol and burgundy, and probably the coolest parka of the whole fair (unfortunately there was no sample [although I thought I had seen it on stage...hm!], only pictures, so now I don’t have a picture to show – yet!). Plus one of my favorite looks on the catwalk was from them – and I really hope that this chic cap is going to be on sale! :)
Spontaneously and unexpectedly, there was a little party at Zizzi, so I got a very nice jacket (an outfit is coming soon!) and used the photo booth that was available to all visitors during the whole fair and took some funny pictures. :)
Zum Abschluss habe ich noch ein winziges “Interview” mit dem Model, das wohl alle auf der Messe am meisten begeistert war – so schön die anderen Mädchen alle waren (und das waren sie wirklich ausnahmslos alle!), sie hat es doch irgendwie geschafft, alle ein bisschen in den Schatten zu stellen – die Rede ist von → Carina Behrens, die auf der Messe für Zizzi und Junarose (andere habe ich zumindest nicht gesehen, zumal ich am letzten Tag leider nicht mehr da war) gelaufen ist. Meiner Meinung nach mit 2-3 Auftritten pro Show viel zu selten und als Einzige auf dem Laufsteg, die Größe 48 trägt, die “Attraktion” der Messe gewesen. Ich hoffe, dass es beim nächsten Mal keine Besonderheit mehr sein wird, dass Carina nur der erste Schritt für noch mehr Model-Größenvielfalt auf der Messe war und es dann nichts “Besonderes” mehr ist, was man extra erwähnt, wenn man über die “Curvy is sexy” spricht.
Meine drei Fragen an Carina:
Da du das erste Mal auf der “Curvy is sexy” dabei warst: wie fandest du die Messe so aus Model-Sicht? Wie war für dich die Show auf dem Catwalk, die Kunden, die Marken, natürlich auch die Tatsache, dass du als Einzige “richtig Plus Size” warst, etc.?
Zuerst muss ich sagen, dass ich mich sehr geehrt fühle, dieses Mal auf der “Curvy is sexy” sein zu dürfen, da ich im vergangenen Jahr leider über den Zeitraum eine Buchung hatte. Ich habe mich ganz besonders gefreut, dass die Messe auch im ganz offiziellen Programm der Fashion Week stand. Ich fand es super, dass auf dem Catwalk einige verschiedene Größen vertreten waren, was ja auch nicht immer Standard ist. Von Größe 42-48 (ich trage Größe 48) war alles dabei. Man muss ja bedenken, dass unter dem Begriff “Plus Size” in der Modebranche und dem, was für uns alle in der Normalität “Plus Size” ist, ein riesiger Unterschied ist. Aber dieses Thema wird ja momentan auf sehr vielen Plattformen auseinandergenommen. Mein Standpunkt da ist, dass alle Models bei den Shows auf der “Curvy is sexy” aus beruflicher Sicht “Plus Size” sind, denn da sollte definitiv differenziert werden, denn wenn man diese bezaubernden Mädels sieht, denkt man ja nicht im normalen Leben an große Größen. Außerdem finde ich schade, wenn man sich immer wieder rechtfertigen muss als Frau. Davon wollen wir ja alle weg. Also etwas mehr weg von dem “die sind doch nicht ‘Plus Size’” sondern etwas mehr in die Richtung, seinen Körper mit allen seinen Formen lieben zu lernen, egal in welchem “Größenspektrum” man sich da gerade aufhält. Bei den Marken auf der “Curvy is sexy” war so einiges vertreten und ich habe mich sehr gefreut, dass es langsam immer mehr jüngere Mode gibt, so dass man sich auch als kurvige Frau modisch kleiden kann. Ich bin auf den Shows leider für recht wenige Brands gelaufen, da die Sample-Größen bei den meisten Kunden Kleidergröße 44 ist, da sollte an der “Diversity” (ach ist das ein beliebtes Wort geworden, was es allerdings auch genau trifft) noch gearbeitet werden. Aber es hat mir irrsinnig Freude gemacht, die Outfits von Zizzi, Junarose etc. zu präsentieren und freue mich schon riesig auf die kommende “Curvy is sexy”!

Wie siehst du “Plus Size” in Deutschland? Merkst du, gerade auch als Model, dass sich da was tut? Und wie denkst du, wird es sich weiter entwickeln?
Plus Size in Deutschland, hmmm. Ich glaube, wir sind da auf dem richtigen Weg. Wir machen zwar immer noch kleine Mäuseschritte, aber es tut sich doch so Einiges. Editorials in diversen Magazinen, wie der “Freundin”, “Brigitte”, “Maxi”, aber auch sogar schon der deutschen Vogue zeigen doch, dass das Thema “Plus Size” nicht mehr so ganz vergessen wird. Immer mehr Marken bringen Kollektionen raus, die über die 42 hinausgehen, denn man sieht ja: der Bedarf ist da! Ich erwarte für 2014 noch viel Neues und hoffe, dass aus den Mäuseschritten bald ganz Große werden !
Erzähle uns doch ein Bisschen was über deine persönliche “Plus Size”-Story! :)
Ich war eigentlich schon immer “etwas mehr”. Da ich mit 3 Jungs aufgewachsen bin, die meine Mutter zur Tagespflege hatte, habe ich mir in meiner Kindheit zumindestens keine wirklichen Gedanken um mein Aussehen gemacht. Aber auch später war ich eigentlich auch immer glücklich mit mir selber und mit meinem Körper. Meine Cousine, die früher selber Model war, hat mich irgendwann mal mit dem Thema “Plus-Size-Modeln” konfrontiert und ich konnte das erst gar nicht so richtig glauben, dass ich die Chance hätte, genauso wie sie früher zu reisen und mit tollen Fotografen etc. zusammenzuarbeiten. Durch einen Modelcontest bei Ulla Popken bin ich dann aber tatsächlich in die Branche reingerutscht und schon sehr bald konnte ich den Vertrag bei Brigitte Models unterschreiben. Ich habe mich gefreut wie ein Schnitzel! Seitdem geht alles so seinen Weg und ich fliege nach Kanada, Miami etc. zu Shootings. Wer hätte das gedacht?! Ich bin auf alle Fälle jeden Tag dankbar für das was ich tue und freue mich, mit meinen Kurven mein Geld zu verdienen.
To wrap up this long recap, I have a tiny little “interview” with the model who probably set the whole fair on fire. As beautiful as all the girls were (and they really were gorgeous, all of them!), she managed to outshine them all – I’m talking about → Carina Behrens, who modeled for Zizzi and Junarose (I actually don’t know if there were other brands as I wasn’t there on the last day). In my opinion, seeing her walk the catwalk only two or three times per show was way too seldom; and being the only one there wearing EU size 48, she was kind of an “attraction” at the fair. I hope that next time this won’t be unusual and that Carina was the first step in bringing more model size diversity to the fair, so that people won’t consider this “special” anymore when they talk about the “Curvy is sexy”.
My three questions:
Since it was your first time at the “Curvy is sexy”: what do you think about the fair from a model’s point of view? How was the show on the catwalk for you, your clients, the brands, of course also the fact that you were the only “real plus size” model, and so on?
First, I have to say, that I feel honored to be at the “Curvy is sexy” this time as I was booked for a job somewhere else last year. I’m especially glad that the fair is an official part of the Fashion Week. It was great that there were many different sizes on the catwalk – that’s not standard practice. There were all sizes from EU size 42 to 48 (I wear size 48). You really have to take into consideration that “plus size” in the fashion business is something else than what it is for us, in everyday life. But this is being discussed on many platforms these days. From my point of view, all models at the fair were a business “plus size” because you really have to make a precise distinction. When you see these beautiful girls you’d never think of larger sizes in normal life. It’s also very sad that you always have to explain yourself as a woman. We all want this to end. So let’s go away from “that’s not ‘plus size’” and into a direction where you can learn to love your body with all its shapes, no matter which “spectrum of size” you’re in. There were many brands at the “Curvy is sexy” and I’m very happy that there is more and more younger fashion so that you can dress fashionable as a curvy woman. Unfortunately, I didn’t walk for many brands as the sample sizes were EU 44 – diversity (such a hyped word but it’s appropriate) is something we have to work on. But I had so much fun presenting the outfits by Zizzi, Junarose etc. and I’m looking forward to the next “Curvy is sexy”!
How do you see “plus size” in Germany? Do you see a change, especially as a model? And how do you think it will develop?
“Plus size” in Germany, hmmm. I think we’re on the right track. We’re making baby steps but it’s actually happening a lot. Editorials in many magazines, like “Freundin”, “Brigitte”, “Maxi”, but also German “Vogue”, show that “plus size” is not being forgotten anymore. More and more brands launch collections above EU size 42 because you can see that there is a great demand! I’m expecting many new things for 2014 and hope that the baby steps will soon turn into big ones!
Tell us about your personal “plus size story”! :)
I’ve always been “a little more”. Growing up with three boys who my mother looked after during the day, I didn’t actually think about my appearance. Later, I was still happy with myself and my body. My cousin, she was a former model, sometime confronted me with “plus-size modeling”, and first I couldn’t believe having the same chance to travel around and work with great photographers etc.. But then I actually made it into the business thanks to a model contest at Ulla Popken, and soon I signed my contract with Brigitte Models. I was thrilled to bits! Since then, I’ve been continuing my way and flying to Canada, Miami etc. for shootings. Who would have thought that?! Anyway, I’m definitely grateful every day for what I do and that I earn my money with my curves.
