Madison Avenue

New York high street Madison Avenue saw the opening of 11 retailers in the first half of the year.

Between Jan 1. and June 30, Madison Avenue saw new openings including boutiques, art galleries and spa facilities, motioning that the retail stretch between East 57th Street and East 86th Street is popular among consumers and brands. New York real estate is notoriously expensive, with the priciest retail street in the city, Fifth Avenue, just an avenue over from Madison Avenue.

Mad about Madison

The Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) shared a report for the first half of 2015 that reflects the successful retail period the area has recently seen.

Openings include an Apple store, a Dolce & Gabbana Children’s boutique, a new Fendi outpost, which the brand celebrated with a charity initiative (see story), Estee Lauder-owned perfumer Le Labo and watchmaker Panerai, among others.

In a statement, Matthew Bauer, president of the Madison Avenue BID, said, “Madison Avenue has long been known for providing the complete luxury shopping experience, with boutiques that embody the artistic direction of the world’s finest designers. With our newest group of retailers, we are especially impressed with the level of craftsmanship not only shown in the products that are sold, but with the architectural detail presented at their boutiques. We also wish to congratulate Brunello Cucinelli, Christian Louboutin and Morgenthal Frederics on their expansions on Madison Avenue during this period.”

The Madison Avenue BID also organizes event programming that honors its retailers through consumer-based exploration in the form of shopping excursions, talks and social happenings.

For example, Mulberry and Graff Diamonds are among the brands celebrating their British heritage stateside through the “Great Britain Campaign on Madison Avenue” initiative in November.

Organized by the Madison Avenue BID the Great Britain Campaign will highlight brands of British origins through special events and exhibitions. As one of the most famed high streets in the United States, Madison Avenue often curates events to showcase what it has to offer consumers as a way to drive foot traffic (see story).
