We’ve put together a selection of some of the biggest and most explosive events in the UK for this year’s Bonfire Night celebrations. Taking place on Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday, don’t miss out on a night of spectacular firework displays, great food and heaps of family-friendly entertainment.

Glasgow Green Fireworks Display

This huge pyrotechnics extravaganza starts at around 7.30pm with over 3,000 fireworks planned for the display. Be sure to arrive early as there will be a funfair and plenty of food stalls selling delicious snacks. Entry is free and local celebrities are expected to provide even more entertainment.

Lewes Bonfire Celebrations

The world’s biggest bonfire celebration takes places in the small town of Lewes in Sussex. With six bonfire societies coming together to create an unforgettable evening of processions, bonfires, costumers and of course, plenty of fireworks. Celebrations start at 5pm and last until the early hours but be sure to arrive early as it can get crowded.

Cambridge Bonfire Night

Hosted by the council, this free event takes place in the heart of the city, in the beautiful Midsummer Common. Attended by over 25,000 people, this remains the largest firework display in eastern England. A kid’s fun fair also features, opening after 6pm with the display scheduled for 7.30pm.

Fireworks at the Fort

Taking place at the impressive Segedunum Roman Fort, this annual display lights up the River Tyne. Tickets are free and includes entry into the museum where you can learn more about this historic strong hold with interactive displays telling more about the Roman empire. The fireworks will begin at 6.30pm and food will be available.

Alexandra Palace Fireworks Festival

This impressive palace in London hosts this popular carnival of fun once again. Aside from the roaring bonfire and electric firework display, visitors can enjoy an adult fun fair, kids zone and ice skating. Alexandra Palace’s Great Hall will also feature a German beer festival complete with oompah bands, sausages and craft beer.

Leeds Castle Fireworks Spectacular

Labelled as the biggest and best display in the South East of England, visitors can marvel at the impressive fireworks which are timed to music from Hollywood movies. There will also be iconic movie scenes projected onto the side of the castle. Tickets must be bought in advance and the celebrations start early with door’s opening at 2pm.

Fireworks Night at Blists Hill

The Victorian town of Blists Hill provides the perfect setting for a Guy Fawkes celebration. All the locals will be wearing traditional attire from the era which adds to the historic charm, transporting visitors back to the 1800s. Taking place on the Village Green, the display will get underway at 7.30pm accompanied by a rousing soundtrack.

Sparks in the Park

A family favorite since 1981, Wales biggest display attracts some 20,000 visitors to it’s beautiful setting, the Cardiff Castle. Gates open at 4.30pm with a child friendly display at 5.45pm with a range of low level fireworks that are less noisy and not quite as explosive. At 7 pm the adults can enjoy some bigger bangs. All profits from this event are used towards community causes.

Guy Fawkes Festival and Fireworks

Learn more about the infamous, Guy Fawkes at the home of explosives, The Royal Gunpowder Mills. Costume re-enactments of the famous plot will transport you back to seventeenth century London. There’s also live music, fairground rides and a barbecue. The fireworks finale begins at 7pm.

Hopetoun Bonfire & Fireworks Night

Arguably one of the best displays in Scotland, this event features a huge bonfire, live entertainment and a firework display choreographed to music. With the majestic backdrop of the 17th century Hopetoun House, this awe inspiring light show is sure to impress. The event starts at 4pm and tickets should be bought in advance.
