If you’ve talked to me in the last month, you know that I moved into a new apartment and I’m still (very slowly) settling in. There has definitely been progress made, but there are still many upgrades to go. That’s why I am so excited to partner with Menard’s for my first big at-home project: painting my bedroom! I worked with their in-store and online teams to find the perfect paint for me, and we also have a contest for you all! Read on for more DIY details.
Though I don’t spend a ton of time in my room, it’s one of the most important rooms to me because it houses my clothes (the most important part of any home!) so I wanted to find bedding that I loved and then build the room around that. But because Menard’s carries such a wide variety of paint brands and colors, I thought it would be easier to find a color to match my bedding than the other way around. And I was right!
Starting the process online
After using the Digital Inspiration Studio with Pittsburgh Paints and Stains online pre-visit, I knew the complimentary colors that went with my bedding, but I was considering being a little more bold with my choice. In speaking with the staff in-store, they helped me pick a cornflower-esque blue (“Viva la Bleu” is the given name if you’re looking for the exact hue in the Pittsburgh Paints library) that would stand out in my room, especially given that I have predominantly white furniture.

They listened very patiently to me go on about wanting a “light, beachy vibe” and even set me up with sandpaper and white paint to touch up the trim and windows treatments as well.
Overall, the experience was fun and easy, and made me feel like a real DIY expert. Now, given my lack of success at building IKEA furniture, the actual painting of the room might give me more trouble, but that will be an adventure for another post. For now, I’m just having fun getting the rest of my room ready for it’s fun new color!
