Fun & Unique Ways To Give Back To Your Community.
I love giving back, helping others and making a positive change in my community. I am originally from a third world country and understand first hand the importance of as well as the difference that having proper health care, a good home and food can have on one's life.
Which is why it is an honor to partner with Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company to spread the word about their important and heart warming Band Together campaign which will donate a record breaking $2 million opportunity to support the amazing and much needed charities that address the issues of health, home and hunger while sharing some fun and unique ways that you can give back to your community!
Earlier this spring my neighbors and I got together and did a closet and home spring cleaning then held a neighborhood garage sale with all proceeds split equally amongst the local charities that we support. It was a wonderful opportunity to teach our children about helping others and most importantly an effective and fulfilling way to come together to help those in need in our community.
The spring garage sale fundraiser was so successful that the children wanted to take part so we are planning on hosting a children's toys and books garage sale later this summer. These are just some of the unique and effective ways that you and your family can also use to give back to your local communities. Read on for more great ideas that are sure to inspire...
1. Dream Closet Garage Sale:
Put those never worn, barely worn or I've outgrown you clothing, shoes and accessories to good use with all proceeds donated to your local charities. You can increase the success of the event and funds raised like we did by inviting your fashion forward family, friends and/ or your neighbors to also donate items for the sale.
They can also help to make things easier by volunteering to spread the word about the fundraising garage sale with postings on online community websites and social media. Placing an ad in the free classified section of your local newspaper and posting flyers and signs around your neighborhood and on major street corners. Also get volunteers to also help with pricing and tagging the items and with set up before and cleaning up after the garage sale.
2. Celebrate Life While Improving Lives:
I love birthday celebrations but after a certain age it felt ubiquitous to receive so many gifts and gift cards from friends and family when simply having them be there to celebrate my life was more than enough.
A few years ago I decided moving forward that I would donate my non personalized birthday gifts and gift cards to the charities I support. I get to enjoy the flower bouquets, birthday cards, drinks and meals and spending time with my loved ones while those in need benefit from their kindness and generosity.
3. Spread The Wedding Cheer:
When my hubby and I tied the knot we were truly overwhelmed by the generosity of our family and friends, in the months and weeks leading up to our nuptials as well as on our wedding day. We decided that as part of our thank you notes to our guests to donate a portion of our monetary wedding gifts to one of our favorite charities but on behalf of our guests. They received a personal thank you note for their generous contribution to us as well as for giving back to those in need at the same time. You can spread the wedding cheer and love on your big da by doing the same.
4. Make Work Fun By Giving Back:
We spend 40+ hours a week at work and that much time with our co-workers has fostered amazing friendships, where we enjoy group lunches, going out for drinks after work and planning department outings and group trips. It wasn't too long before we were bouncing around ideas on how to give back collectively.
We enlisted in fun ideas like taking part in community fundraising walks and group fundraising sports events, too holding a non perishable-food drive at the office and volunteering our professional skills to help others. Spending time outside the office and being part of something so meaningful allowed our work friendships to grow into more personal, lifelong ones, centered around making a difference in the lives of others.
5. Band Together with Jewelers Mutual:
Who will donate a total of $2 million to charities like St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Feeding America or Food Banks Canada that address important needs in our community and help provide homes, health services and alleviate hunger.
You can help the Band Together campaign by voting for the cause of your choice from now through to July 31, 2016 at 11pm CT to decide how the record-breaking donation will be dispersed. The cause that receives the most votes by the end of July will receive a $1 million donation from Jewelers Mutual. The runner-up will receive $700,000 and the third-place winner will receive $300,000.
