Novice Dog Obedience class

Lucerne Valley Parks and Recreation is offering a nine-week "Novice Dog Obedience" class starting on April 15. The class is a combination of agility and companion dog training.

Cost is $25 for the session, which will be taught by instructor Ginger Miller.

Do not bring your dog to the first meeting. Subsequent classes will be held at 6 p.m. at Pioneer Park.

No overly aggressive dogs, no female dogs in season, must provide own proper equipment, and dogs must be at least 6 months old. Handlers must be at least 9 years old, and a parent or guardian must accompany junior handlers.

Handlers must be registered prior to the first meeting. Registration is at the CSA 29 office at the Community Center.

Participants must bring a proof of current rabies vaccination when registering.

'Willy Wonka Junior' this weekend

Lucerne Valley Elementary School Drama Club presents Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka Junior" on April 16, 17 and 18. The April 16 and 17 shows will be shown at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $3. The April 18 dinner show starts at 4 p.m. and costs $5 per person.

Words and music are by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley and was adapted for the stage by Bricusse and Timothy A. McDonald. The musical is based on the book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl.

First Mountain Bank Pay It Forward

First Mountain Bank is proud to sponsor Lucerne Valley X-Roads BMX through our “Pay It Forward Program”. All donations will be matched by First Mountain Bank through April 30. All monies will go towards replacing items that are essential to the operation of the track that have recently been stolen from the tracks container. BMX is a great sport that is beneficial and open to all ages, offering a fun family activity for the community.

Public meeting on CDCA changes

The Bureau of Land Management has been open house public meetings on changes to the California Desert Conservation Area plan. The next local meeting will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15 at the Yucca Valley Community Center Complex, Yucca Room, 57090 Twentynine Palms Highway, Yucca.

Changes to the California Desert Conservation Area plan are being considered to travel management and grazing management on public lands. In addition, specific route designations that change public lands access in your area are proposed, as well as other strategies to implement travel management direction. Please come to one of the meetings to hear more about the project goals and alternatives or to make comments.

Area residents and others interested in public lands access, resources, grazing, adjacent land issues, and the public lands route network are invited to the meeting.

Electronic Waste Clean Up

Lucerne Valley Electronic Waste Clean Up will be held on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

All electronic and electrical items accepted; Projection TVs, Laptops, PDAs, cell phones, computers, scanners, fax machines, paper shredders, toner and ink cartridges, portable heaters, alkaline batteries, ups Units, VCRs, DVD/CD/Tape players etc. Sponsored by the Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Lucerne Valley Market and Cal Micro. Annual Garden Tour on Earth Day

Desert Crossroads Garden Clubs Annual Garden Tour will be held April 22, Earth Day. The tour is open to the public. Join us at the Water Awareness Garden behind the Senior Center at 9 a.m. for a guided tour of the our demonstration garden and refreshments. From there we will be touring three local home owners gardens. A box lunch prepared by our local High School ROP Restaurant Occupation Students will be available for the price of $6 for club members and $10 for nonmembers.

Blood Drive and Marrow Screening at First Mountain Bank

The Lucerne Valley Lions Club and First Mountain Bank are hosting a Blood Drive and Marrow Screening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22. The event will be held in the LifeStream bloodmobile at the bank parking lot.

For every lifesaving donation participants will receive coupons for a free milkshake and two complimentary tacos, courtesy of Jack in the Box, free cholesterol screening, and points that may be redeemed for items through LifeStream's online donor store at www.LStream.org.

Donors are asked to please be sure to drink plenty of fluids and bring a photo ID. If you are 15 or 16 years old, please bring a signed parental consent form.

Car Gathering

The next gathering of our older model cars will be at Rocks' Place on April 23rd at 5 o'clock. Hope to see a bunch of you there. Bring your cars or just yourselves. Good food and company.

Annual Worm Race

The Lucerne Valley Roadrunners' annual Worm Race will be held on Friday, May 1 at Lucerne Valley Elementary School. More information is coming shortly.

Just Jewelry Craft Show

Mother's Day May 10th is just around the corner, the Just Jewelry Craft Show will be held on the weekend before Mother's Day — Friday, May 1 from 1-5 p.m. and Saturday May 2 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Stop in and see the beautiful artistry of some of our local talented artists. The jewelry is delicate, fascinating and one of a kind.

This show will be exciting and interesting. We have a few tables available, call to reserve one before the are all gone.

Chamber Mixer at First Mountain Bank

First Mountain Bank in Lucerne Valley is hosting a Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce mixer on Thursday, May 7.

Senior's Soup Supper

Soup Suppers, where many people bring their favorite soups to share, are great fun and good eating. It is even better when served with a salad and dessert. All that is offered for just $7.00 a person. And, as an extra, there will also be a Senior Bake Sale going on.

This fundraiser for the Lucerne Valley Senior Citizens will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 at the Senior Center, 10431 Allen Way, Lucerne Valley (behind the Library on Hwy 247).
