Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford is the heart and soul of Stanford Children’s Health. Nationally ranked and internationally recognized, our 311-bed hospital is devoted entirely to pediatrics and obstetrics. Our six centers of excellence provide comprehensive services and deep expertise in key obstetric and pediatric areas: brain & behavior, cancer, heart, pregnancy & newborn, pulmonary and transplant. We also provide an additional, wide range of services for babies, kids and pregnant moms.
The Home Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and management of the daily operations and activities of the assigned Pharmacy area. This position also participates in planning and policy making and provides care or education/training about patient care appropriate to the ages of patients served on the assigned unit(s).

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).
• Assists in budget development, budget adherence and performs special projects as assigned.
• Assists with the training of students and residents.
• Conducts research related to drug therapy and pharmacy practice and encourages participation of staff.
• Ensures proper control and record keeping for Controlled Substances stored in and distributed by the Pharmacy; routinely reviews records to assure accountability and conformity with legal requirements, and immediately reports any discrepancies and deviations from established policies and procedures to the Director.
• Manages Pharmacy Technicians and ensures that proper guidance and direction is provided to them.
• Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of Departmental Policies and Procedures. Assists in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of daily operations of the assigned Pharmacy area. Prepares short and long range goals and objectives for the assigned Pharmacy area for the review and approval of the Associate Director/Director of Pharmacy.
• Performs interviews and recommends the hiring of new staff members; providing or arranging for training for subordinates; assigning and scheduling work; developing work procedures consistent with hospital policy; monitoring work performed in order to meet established goals, objectives and target dates; evaluating subordinates' performance; and recommending personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, or disciplinary action to ensure adequate and competent staffing.
• Promotes the involvement of staff pharmacists in the provision of clinical pharmacy services including patient drug therapy monitoring, the provision of drug information to medical and nursing staffs; participation in in-service training and patient counseling.
• Provide On-Call for Home Pharmacy.
• Supervises the drug distribution and compounding activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Completion of a Residency accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists
Education: PharmD from an accredited college/university
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
License/Certification: PRM-CA - Licensed as a Pharmacist by the California Board of Pharmacy
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification.
• Ability to supervise, coach, mentor, train, and evaluate work results.
• Ability to work effectively both as a team player and leader.
• Ability to work with devices, information systems, automated and technical equipment utilized in pharmacy.
• Knowledge of Authorization/Billing procedures for Home Infusion services.
• Knowledge of influence of patient's age, sex, concomitant disease states, concurrent drug therapy, foods and diagnostic procedures on drug activity and disposition.
• Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.
• Knowledge of Medical terminology and abbreviations; pharmacology and pharmacological nomenclature; medical therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and disease states.
• Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in proper handling and storing of pharmaceutical supplies.
• Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, chemistry and mathematics as they relate to pharmacy practice.
• Knowledge of prescription and non-prescription drugs and drug products and their indications, efficacy, dosage, mechanisms of action; fate and disposition (if known), major contraindications and potential side effects.
