Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford is the heart and soul of Stanford Children’s Health. Nationally ranked and internationally recognized, our 311-bed hospital is devoted entirely to pediatrics and obstetrics. Our six centers of excellence provide comprehensive services and deep expertise in key obstetric and pediatric areas: brain & behavior, cancer, heart, pregnancy & newborn, pulmonary and transplant. We also provide an additional, wide range of services for babies, kids and pregnant moms.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director – Imaging Services, performs administrative work in planning, organizing, and directing the staff and services in a major organizational segment of component within the Imaging Services Department at Stanford Children’s Hospital Clinical Director – Imaging Services has full responsibility for planning, organizing, directing , and controlling resources and program delivery in assigned areas; including developing and implementing policies and procedural controls, quality improvement, compliance, competency assessment, patient care, budget control, personnel administration, and procurement. Recommends short, intermediate and long term goals and objectives for departmental planning including participation in the budgeting and forecasting process.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

Administers and coordinates functions and staff in a major functional area(s) of Imaging Services including, but not necessarily limited to: Diagnostic Radiology, MRI, CT Scan, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, or Interventional Radiology at multiple locations May assist affiliates of SCH with pediatric imaging techniques and standards.

Conducts frequent inspection and observation of Radiology Services facilities and operations to determine the effectiveness of operations and to ensure compliance with rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.

Meets and consults with the Director – Imaging Services concerning policies, procedures, patient care standards, facility utilization, operational matters and audits, and selection and termination of key technical personnel; assists in resolving related problems.

Provides guidance and direction for supervisors in carrying out their responsibilities to ensure an even flow of work assignments, personnel, and patients. Directs, assists, and resolves problems encountered by supervisors in the development of objectives, physical facility, equipment and supply needs, personnel, organizational structure, work distribution and operational processes.

Recommends action to administration regarding equipment modifications, new equipment and essential construction within the department, assists in the planning for new facilities, and recommends facilities, equipment and personnel needs.

Responsible for development, interpretation, dissemination, and practice of departmental and hospital policies, procedures, regulations and information and all performance and quality improvement planning. Establishes, identifies, and ensures systems and standards that promote patient’s safety and safe practices for delivering patient care.

Responsible for overall quality provided by established services and for following the highest standards. Develops quality improvement program and competency assessment initiatives.

Assists the Director to prepare the annual budget.  Evaluates trends and consults with division supervisors, radiologist and the medical staff; and for overall department material needs, mechanical contractors, personnel, merit evaluation, new or modified equipment, and revenue increases as recommended to the administrative staff. Develops cost-effective programs to ensure budget is met. Coordinates departmental purchases and is responsible for stock level, storage and utilization.

Reviews department performance in relation to established goals, implements change to effect continual improvement in services provided, and ensures compliance with all internal and external standards as well as regulatory and legal requirements. Ensures hospital and departmental policies and procedures are maintained and followed. Ensures department is in constant compliance with Joint Commission, State and Federal regulatory agencies.

Reviews departmental operation for effectiveness for labor distribution, revenue versus disbursements, productivity analysis and by departmental and administrative conferences.

Takes remedial action to resolve or improve deficient operational conditions or problems, changes in work pattern, personnel and patients; discusses with the Director – Imaging Services problems initiated by the medical staff for corrective action; provides assistance in the recruitment of personnel and their selection and appointment; reviews and recommends merit increases, promotions, demotions, hiring and firing and reprimand practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: BA in a related discipline preferred

Experience:  Seven (7) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

License/Certification: ARRT and CRT
