Sometimes I really really love my job. Blogging has opened up my eyes to a lot of things about the fashion industry, some really good things – like the creative genius that it takes to put together a kick ass runway show, and some not so good – like the horrible working conditions that often make up the fast-fashion industry. Perhaps as a response to the growing collective negativity surrounding the idea of fast-fashion, I’ve noticed in the past couple of years that there are more companies that are focused on sustainable and ethical fashion, and many of the fast-fashion giants are even taking a look at their own manufacturing process, improving it, or creating alternative ‘conscious’ lines, like H&M for example.

As I slowly uncover brands that not only make great products, but also do great things, I get excited about the possibility of a future where it is easy and affordable to dress with a conscience. One such company, Krochet Kids, empowers women in Peru and Uganda, through a mentorship program. The women are able to use their skills to earn their income creating beautiful clothing and accessories for men, women, and children, and also work with mentors to enable their continued future success. To learn more about Krochet Kids check out their website here.  (P.S. Not pictured, but I just bought the cutest onsie/hat set and winter hat for future baby too…)

This look pretty is pretty much my fall uniform, a cozy sweatshirt (this one has a gorgeous crochet detail on the back), distressed denim, and booties.  I also love to throw on a cute hat for a casual style – just for the look right now because its still feels like summer outside, but definitely will be wearing for function when it eventually gets chilly around here. I have been using this cute clutch as a makeup bag lately in my much larger ‘mom bag’ I’ve been lugging around lately, and it is perfect – it has a leather back and it isn’t flimsy at all. I plan on wearing it as a clutch on my next GNO – whenever that may be!
