Calling all cake lovers and baking aficionados. Guest blogger Sophie Devine shares her visit to the Clandestine Cake Club...

I recently suffered a cake coma. What a beautiful thing it was. It was not one of those occasions where you eat your troubles away alone with a chocolate gateau, bottle of wine and a trashy romcom, but a marvelous celebration of the creations of a group of North London bakers.

A band of thirteen cooks met in a Camden pub on a Monday evening to be entertained and indulged with an array of eleven tropical themed cakes. There was guava cake, pineapple upside down cake, orange and rum polenta cake and many more scrumptious creations to taste and people to meet. The Clandestine Cake club is a fantastic opportunity to make new friends, try out your latest recipes and munch on some delectable desserts. If you love cake, I highly recommend you attend.

The Clandestine Cake Club began in Leeds in 2010, when an avid home baker, Lynn Hill, resolved to share her love of baking. Clubs have now been founded all over the country and are ever increasing in popularity. Up and coming events themes are a Summer Fruits Picnic on the 13 June, with some classical entertainment lined up, and Glorious Floral in September. Event information is messaged directly to those signed up for meetings a few days before. Members are welcome to bring one non-baking guest, and all abilities are welcome. Check out http://clandestinecakeclub.co.uk/groups/camden/ for more details and up and coming events!
