University of Louisville sophomore placekicker John Wallace has been named to the preseason watch list for the Lou Groza Award, announced Wednesday by the award’s selection committee. The award is given out annually to the nation’s top placekicker as voted on by a panel of more than 300 FBS head coaches, SID’s, media members, and former winners.
Wallace, an Elizabethtown, KY native, converted 10-for-11 field goals to start the season, with the only miss coming from 34 yards out versus Cincinnati. As a freshman Wallace connected on 16-21 field goals and made a perfect 13-for-13 field goals under 40 yards. Wallace finished the season 34th in the country in field goals made per game (1.34) and was honored by the Big East (AAC) as an honorable mention All-American. His 16 made field goals are second most in school history.
The award will narrow the field to 20 semifinalists on Monday, November 4th. From there the top three finalists will be announced on Monday, November 25th and the winner will be selected on Thursday, December 12th during the Home Depot College Football Awards in Orlando, Florida.
