Even before giving birth to her daughter Eve, Canadian artist Ruth Oosterman already knew she wanted her child to be passionate about art. So as soon as Eve got old enough to hold a pen, the two quickly became an artistic duo.

Ruth started Eve’s promising artistic career by giving her a black brush pen and letting her make doodles. She’d then improve upon her child’s work by painting it with more details and shading. Now that Eve is a bit older, she’s moved on to using brushes and paints – and even works simultaneously alongside mum!

‘She can now discuss with me as we paint [the art] and let me know why she is using certain colors’, said Oosterman. ‘These conversations are why I paint with her. The end product is never the goal, but the journey I get to experience with her’.

She adds: ‘As Pablo Picasso said, it can take ‘but a lifetime to paint like a child.’ I feel so blessed that my daughter can remind me once again what it is to paint like a child by letting me see through her eyes’.

You can purchase some of their paintings over on Etsy.
