Norton is seeking a passionate engineering
manager to join our team and manage a world-class team of embedded Linux
Software Engineers and Software Engineers in Test. You will work with members of
other internal teams (PM, Product, Marketing), Symantec’s Shared Technology
group, and external partners as you drive your team to build an exciting new
product that will protect consumer households. If you are ready to combat the

talented, driven, and hard-working Engineering Managers who have experience
building innovative, mission critical, highly optimized embedded applications.
You will have an enormous opportunity to lead a group of top-notch engineers in

The ideal candidate must have proven experience managing teams of
embedded engineers, both of the development and testing side.

Overall
Responsibilities

• Motivate, coach and manage the performance of a team of talented individual engineers
• Help to recruit and build a strong team that can grow.
• Coordinate plans, commitments and schedules with various peer groups including testing organizations,program management and product
management.
• Manage the day-to-day progress of the team, tracking defect fix
rates, in field issues and new feature development.
• Measure and track success through telemetry, predict the need for and add more data points and be
able make product decisions using them.
• Remove Roadblocks for engineers to be able focus on developing a great product.
• Assume and ownership role for a product deliverable and consistently ensure high quality delivery of
commitments on time
• Effectively innovate and take calculated risks to exceed expectations for the team.

Basic Qualifications
• Experience in managing teams that design, implement, test and optimize multi-threaded,
real-time, application-level and kernel-level code in an embedded Linux environment
• Excellent communication and organization skills.
• Ability to remove ambiguity and make decisions, sometimes without all the data.
• Strong understanding of customer needs and a drive to solve their problems.
• Able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical people in
different roles.
• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
combination of Training & Experience & 3+ years related management experience; or
MSE & 2+ years related experience; or PhD & 1+ years related experience
(Post graduate work is preferred). An MBA can substitute for an MSE, as long as
you have an undergraduate degree in engineering.

• Basic understanding of networking protocols and routing
across all OSI layers
• Experience with real time operating systems
(RTOS)
• Experience with real time debugging tools (software and
hardware)
• Understanding of common networking protocols, such as TCP/IP,
UDP, and HTTP
• Experience with C/C++
• Knowledge of embedded Linux system
programming, including kernel internals such as device drivers, board support,
and networking
• Wireless protocols, such as IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac,
