NAMM 2014 – A second chance to make a first impression. The follow up
Filmed at NAMM 2014 on Thursday night, Can you have a second chance to make a first impression? Sort of….After you make the contact, the connection or switch out the cards. How do you handle your follow up?
Starting an email with: I met you at NAMM 2014 is not a great opener. I mean, think about it. This goes for saying you met at namm, the namm show, on the floor of the Anaheim convention center or that you met them at their booth or walking past.
Key reason is because this is how everyone is in the middle or meeting or has met hundreds and thousands of people at NAMM 2014 and previous events.
Make the first impression for a second time in your follow up strong. Don’t expect any one to stay with your email that long. Bring them right in with anything memorable, from what you were wearing to what you discussed, to some kind of thing to bring the memory of you back in their head and stand out from the others.
Which brings to the present, before you are able to do that follow up, make that strong first impression at NAMM 2014 by standing out in a funny, memorable and professional way that makes it all the easier for the follow up to be remembered.
From wearing an extra badge, to clapping your hands after a hand shake to something that is a bit off topic, but still professional. If they are wearing a baseball hat, bring up baseball. Talk about something outside of what every other person is approaching them with at NAMM 2014.
The more you are able to stand out in your initial contact and make a stronger reminder right off the bat in your follow up contact, the more professional you will stand out and be remembered.
